1964 GMC Panel/Suburban 4x4
Hi guys,
I spend most of my time on the Blazer boards but I came across this not far from my place. I am interested in going to look at it. But first I could use some advice/feedback on what to verify for authenticity, what to look for in common rust areas, red flags etc. I pretty sure a 350 is not original equipment or is it? Also, its not a "panel" is it? Thanks for any input/thoughts/advice Mike http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/cto/4940204569.html |

Wow,
I really appreciate all the feedback and input from you guys, some great information and resources. I've emailed him to see when its available to look at/inspect. I don't need this thing, but I just want it! Guess I'll have to sell the 1976 2wd Sierra Classic Suburban I just bought two weeks ago! Thanks again, Mike |

Re: 1964 GMC Panel/Suburban 4x4
read through this page on the gmc vin:
http://6066gmcclub.com/gmcguy/VinNumber.html since it is visually a gmc-dash, front clip, but the guy calls it a 64 when it has the 60-63 windshield, and mentions that it is a chevy in the ad, I would verify for sure what it is...

Re: 1964 GMC Panel/Suburban 4x4
It is most definitely a 60-63. However in some areas if a 63 was sold in 64 it would be registered as a 64. No big deal in my mind, as long as you are aware of it and get the 60-63 versions of parts when needed.
Nope, not a panel. Panels have no side windows. example. as for being a GMC, definitely looks that way. Dual headlights and Dash are dead giveaways. When looking at it, check for rust in the door pillers, around windshield and drip rails, rockers, floor, lower fenders, rear hood (near hinges), and rear quarters especially around wheel wells. These are the most common rust spots on these models. Pimpston65 has the engines well stated. Based on what was said in the ad and pics shown. Unless something untoward shows up on inspection, definitely looks like a good deal. Good luck BTW Looks like there are some handles bolted between the door and rear windows. Dont think its stock but looks like a good idea to me.

Re: 1964 GMC Panel/Suburban 4x4
it is a 63 according to the vin plate but as it sometimes happens may not have gotten sold until the 64 model were selling and got reg as a 64. he sent me a pic of the vin plate and it is K1001PG.

Re: 1964 GMC Panel/Suburban 4x4
I ended up bringing this one home. It is a 63 and not a 64. It even came with the 4 chrome latches for the sliders.

Well, guess I know the reason he didn't return my call or email after I posted the listing here.

Re: 1964 GMC Panel/Suburban 4x4
Had cash, was ready, called/emailed the morning after posting the listing here for some feedback. Guess that was a mistake I won't make again. Never even got to look at it, let alone hear back from the owner after posting.

Re: 1964 GMC Panel/Suburban 4x4
Hey AisianBlazer, I asked him if he had a lot of interest in the burb. He said he did, but everybody that came and looked at it wasn't interested in it because it had too much rust for them. I figured you had already looked at it.

Here are a couple more pictures. I mounted the front bumper on it tonight. The PO bought it w/o a front bumper and acquired one and threw in on the deal.

Re: 1964 GMC Panel/Suburban 4x4
maybe it is a 62?? your grille support doesn't have the deep cutouts for the frame like a 63 does, and it has a hydraulic clutch, which was still used in 62, but not 63 as far as I know...also the interior looks to be all factory silver/gray, not fawn.... however I thought 62 and 63's had the fawn interior....

Re: 1964 GMC Panel/Suburban 4x4
The '63 GMC's retained the hydraulic clutch and went mechanical in '64.

Re: 1964 GMC Panel/Suburban 4x4
I mistakenly posted a 64 80 series that had a 409 in it, I thought it was cool, and people would enjoy seeing it, and I am positive that a lurker/not a board member saw the post and snapped it up, it got parted and the motor went into a 64 convert, which is sacrilege IMO ... funny thing was, through a friend of a friend I actually knew the guys that got it. I am 99% positive that it was my post that spilled the beans, because that truck had been sitting in the same spot for 20 years, and not 2 months after my post it is gone to the scrapper after being robbed of its engine...

Re: 1964 GMC Panel/Suburban 4x4
How bad is the rust?
The color seems to match the original color of my 63. Which is now silver over blue.
