Running board paint protection

Looking for an alternative to the cast step plates...

All I can seem to find is clear films with the cheapest (DIY) being 3M Paint Defender, though I don't know how this would hold up to the "foot traffic".

Chrome strips? Many look pretty $, though this is interesting: http://www.flexchrome.com/products/index.htm

Anyone come up with anything good for their 47-55s?

I've done this on several trucks. You can tint the liner to what you want and it looks pretty good.

This is what I put on my '54. Wish I had found these from the start. Keeps the boards from scratching and also provides great grip when they are wet because wet running boards are very, very slippery. Good luck.

i used 3M paint protection film in my steps 25,000 miles scratch free miles ago
admittedly i am a gimp and need to use the step getting in and out of my truk, usually twisting my foot on the step
it's not cheap, but it doesn't show on your painted surface
if you've never installed window or paint film, have someone show you how too do it

...that sounds like a plan. Heard some good things about 3m solutions.
