Almost there...pertronix distributor issues...anyone?
I got everything looking good and hooked back up...I installed the pertronix distributor ..hooked the red wire to the plus side of coil and black to neg side. I also hooked the original neg wire to the coil negative side..I got a no start but good cranking..I'm not sure what's up...been a long long day ...

Re: Almost there...pertronix distributor issues...anyone?
Good question. the old wire may be a resister wire that cuts the voltage down from the ign. I think these breakerless dist. like 12volts. try the old one first if your usen the old coil. If I was gona hot wire your trk I'd just run a wire from the + side of the battery to the + side of the coil and jump the starter with a screw driver. varoom. you been jacked. just kidden. try the old wire first cause ya know it goes to the ign.

you shouldn't have a original neg. wire. that should go to the old dist. maybe you hooked up the original + wire to the neg side of the coil??

Oh geeez that's very possible! In my haste I probably mixed them up. So the one to the dist was the negative wire? I have a pertronix coil so I guess I can replace the resister lead part and put in a 12 ga wire...

I took the resistor wire and hooked it to the positive side of coil ...still good crank but no start...maybe I blew the fuse I'm not sure lol...

Re: Almost there...pertronix distributor issues...anyone?
Update...I called pertronix in Cali...tech support was very helpful..he said the resisted wire has 2 ohms resistance and the coil has 1.5 ohms, that's too much to allow the dist to be charged enough... So like in an HEI Set up I need to run a fresh 12-14 gauge wire switched by ign to the positive side of the coil....or refeed the existing wire from the connector..he did suggest a totally new wire from end to end. Thanx for the help ..
