1 Man - Installing and/or Removing Hood.
Any ideas on One Man Installing and/or Removing Hood?
I don't have an engine puller.

Re: 1 Man - Installing and/or Removing Hood.
I did it....used the forks of my tractor and that propped the hood, let is slide off the brackets and then lowered it...then got underneath and man handled it off. lol I've also done it when I propped the hood with my head and let it fall on me.....the 1st way is a tad less painful though.

Re: 1 Man - Installing and/or Removing Hood.
Maybe use a ratchet strap on each corner and raise it up then back from under it??

Re: 1 Man - Installing and/or Removing Hood.
yeah, this has always been my method too. Cabs & beds no problem....but the hoods especially when painted I wait and get help on.

Re: 1 Man - Installing and/or Removing Hood.
I did mine in a similar fashion with a cherry picker. If I didn't have that, I'd bolt substantial brackets to the ceiling joists and lift the hood with ratchet straps., and as noted above back the truck out from under. Just be careful when it comes time to release the tension. I use ratchet straps for all kinds of things, including hood spring installation.
We don't have any help readily available, so waiting isn't much of an option. I figure out an engineering solution rather than stop progress.

Re: 1 Man - Installing and/or Removing Hood.
In a pinch I put some rags on the cowl, unbolted one side at a time. Then just reached under the hood at the center and lifted it overhead. It was pretty darn heavy though. Cherry picker and a few straps makes it easy.

I have done it, but I'm 6'3" and 245 which helps but I usually just walk inside and drag the wife out to help.

Re: 1 Man - Installing and/or Removing Hood.
this doesn't help much... I am just jealous of the clamp they got to use at the factory.... it hooks under the front lip, and then has a rest in the center....
I have found that I can get a hood off by myself with out scratching the paint, but there is pretty much no way to put it on with out tearing stuff up! *** also check out that cool tire stand.. I need one of those for my 4X4!

Re: 1 Man - Installing and/or Removing Hood.
Thanks guys.
I was able to get help today. I think I'm going to go buy an engine hoist for next time. I'll need it for future projects anyway.

Re: 1 Man - Installing and/or Removing Hood.
The only way I have ever been able to do it alone is with an engine hoist. It's the single best tool i own, comes in handy for so many things.
