1983 C10 correct bench seat upholstery
It appears that the charcoal color on the code tag means the interior?
The interior is charcoal. My questions are... Is this the right stitch and seam pattern for this truck. I was told seat is orig. But all the catalogs have that style listed as a later seat. Any sugestions on a source for a new seat covering. Thanks!

Re: 1983 C10 correct bench seat upholstery
What does the line,
70 CARMINE RED SOLID refer to? I am confused as to what lines refer to the interior. Truck exterior is red, but carmine red is not a paint color. Trying to keep truck as orig as possible. Thanks.

Correct; XJJ1 is the "quick spec" RPO for the charcoal vinyl seat in a Silverado.
https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-...tion-kits.html I can't comment on if the pattern is correct since 99% of all Silverados got the cloth/"velour" seat. Code 70 is Carmine Red, which looks like your exterior color per the SPID. K

Re: 1983 C10 correct bench seat upholstery
Keith,
Thanks for the info! I was wrong and it is carmine exterior. LMC has a cover that looks right but is listed as grey. I need a charcoal headliner and seat cover. Suggestions? I am second owner and original owner ordered it the way it is for whatever reason. I always thought carmine red was dark red. My truck is the same color as your. What paint code is your truck? Thanks!

Mine says CJJ1 Charcoal deluxe. Looks like dark grey cloth with black vinyl sides.

It's going to be hard to find the correct charcoal seat cover the lmc is a light grey/silverish. Call usa1 trucks they had the closest I could find. I ended up going local and having it made

X2 on local upholsterer. I got my 83 C20 seat rebuilt and it looks very close to the original. The guys in the trade have better access to various upholstery suppliers. Worst case - search Hemmings and you can likely find any OEM part you want - at a price.

here is what I ordered from Classic Parts and Brothers and returned them both when I was building my interior.
second pic is what I ended up with, changed to graphite carpet and had Conner Sweet cover the dash and door panels, local guy did the seat. |

Re: 1983 C10 correct bench seat upholstery
I also have the Apple Red exterior. The interior was a mix of burgundy(marron) and firethorn red from the previous owner. I ended up recovering my own headliner with fabric I picked out from TrimParts. Picked out a carpet color from swatches I ordered from the place I got my carpet from. I then painted all my plastic interior parts with graphite (charcoal color). The door panel fabric pieces were recovered by a local guy. He is in the process of recovering my seat in the same fabric.

Re: 1983 C10 correct bench seat upholstery
Thanks for the replies.
Big car show next weekend. I hope to get some info on upholsterers. Duramax - those parts you ordered are not close to the same color, but the end result was amazing! I see you got a sweet crew cab! Who is Conner sweet? TKCR - very nice truck, cant wait to see the seat back in it. What graphite color paint did you use? I may also do my own headliner. I did my 88 crew and it turned out good. All this talk of graphite paint, I just realized 83 and 84 grilles are not argent silver as mine has been repainted. It is charcoal colored under the trim. Anyone have an idea of what color the grille is suppossed to be???

I just got a quote to recover 2 buckets and 2 benches. $350 plus materials on benches and $250 each bucket. Vinyl with cloth inserts. Am I wrong in thinking that is high? TKCR I like the seat that way too. I imagine it is nice to drive it again.

Re: 1983 C10 correct bench seat upholstery
You have all been a great! Thanks.
This is what a 32 yr old headliner looks like when you remove trim! TKCR Are your visors factory color charcoal? Mine are. I am trying to establish a visual on the color tones. If so the graphite paint you used looks perfect. My plastic is all perfect, but the metal pcs around the headliner could use paint. I would like to not paint the plastic. I found a 3/16 backed headliner material that is dark charcoal and looks exact. Mine was almost the same color as the visors under the trim(unexposed to sun). Also looking for a charcoal dash. My dash is new but black. I think I can paint it blue and put it in another truck of mine.

Re: 1983 C10 correct bench seat upholstery
The visors were painted with the graphite paint. All my plastic and metal was painted because it was either burgandy or fire torn red. All of it was cleaned and then wiped down with lacquer thinner, cleaned again and then painted.
My headliner looked about the same when I took mine out and took the old fabric off. The fiberglass board was pretty brittle but once I got the new foam backed fabric glued on, it was as good as new. BTW, the grille color is argent silver. I believe there is a thread on the subject. Re: 1983 C10 correct bench seat upholstery
You say cleaned then lacquer thinner then cleaned. What did you use to clean?
Was there a spray on prep or just go right to the graphite paint? Thanks!

Re: 1983 C10 correct bench seat upholstery
Soap & water to clean. I didn't use any spray on prep. As long as they were cleaned really well and the use of the lacquer thinner helps with the "prep".

PO had painted the grille argent silver before I got it, but under the trim is a darker color. So I did some research and it appears 83-84 grilles were a darker grey. I bought some charcoal paint and some "dark argent" and both have lots of metal flake.(wrong) I can not figure out what the color is. Does anyone have experience finding this color? Maybe I should start a new post about it. Thanks!

Re: 1983 C10 correct bench seat upholstery
Use care when removing the headliner and you will be able to reuse the fiberglass backer. Do not attempt to get all of the bits of leftover fabric or adhesive off of the fiberglass - just cut away anything that is hanging loose. An upholsterer can cover that with a thin backer before applying the headliner fabric.
