67-72 OEM Temp Sensor Mounting

I put a 4.8 in my 67 and am trying to figure out the best location for the temp sensor. The LS hole is 12mmx1.5 and the 67 temp sensor is 1/2 NPT. What is the best solution. I thought I had read about a smaller autometer sender but now I cant find it.

Well looks like best option is:

Autometer 2277 and 2259 or drill/tap head. For anyone who finds this searching.

The 2259 sender may not work with the factory 67-72 gage.

I just drilled and tap the passenger side head to put in a replacement sender that was 1/2" npt.

my donor 2001 5.3 water pump had a nice flat boss facing forward that i drilled for the original 1968 sender. Worked perfectly except the factory gauge reads on the warm side because the ls runs hotter than they did in 68. After installing the sender and the factory gauge read warmer than i liked i cut the line before the sender and installed a variable resistor inline and added resistance and dialed the gauge back to half way when fully warmed up (195 degree). The value i added was 4 ohm 1/4 watt resistor from radio shack. Remember that all of the connections need to be nice and shiny, especially the head of the sender, and the exposed connector.

I wanted to follow and say I put the autometer sending unit in my 1967 C10 with factory gauge. At 180° the needle is on the line on the left side. That is verified with a tech2. I haven't gone and driven it to get hotter but so far so good.
