New power steering installed-no power steering?
i installed power steering on my 61 GMC 305 V6. I feel like I don't have any power steering. Could there be something I missed? I have a new gearbox, pump, hoses and belt but it's just like not having any power steering. Please help out this green horn!

Re: New power steering installed-no power steering?
May be air trapped in the system. Did you bleed the system?
Jack up the front end to get both tires of the ground and turn the wheels extreme left and right a few times. It will normally get most of the air out. Often times you will have to let it sit half an hour/hour and do it again. Make sure to check the fluid level as it may drop. Just my guess that there is air trapped in the lines since its all new components.

Re: New power steering installed-no power steering?
Can do either way, but will work best if the engine is off. Will probably take at least 10 full cycles left & right to work it out, maybe a few more. If the fluid is "foamy" with a lot of air, you will have to wait and let the fluid settle down and do it again.

Re: New power steering installed-no power steering?
It took mine a while to get all the air bled out. I would take it for a short drive around the SD and then when I get home checked the reservoir and it would have a lot of air. Let it set filled to cold line and repeat. It took several times to get all the air out, put in about 40 oz's total but stays full and steers like a new one......
