1-7/8 longtubes, show of hands.

Show of hands who went with the 1-7/8 longtubes? I'm referring to the Doug Thorley's, since I don't recall anyone else doing the 1-7/8. (but if you have a different companies full size primary, show that too)

I need a set of longtubes ASAP. Tuner and I prefer the 1-7/8, but I'm feeling the sting of that choice at the moment. I've got so much stuff to get this season, AND I'm trying to buy a house/shop at the same time.

Point me in the direction of the best price on DT's! My new head setup is gonna suffer without longtubes.

I was told by someone that the 1-7/8 are actually for high HP, 6.0's that are built up pretty good.

If your only putting a moderate cam in a 5.3 say, the 1-5/8" should work fine ( I cant remember who it was told me this though) someone on this forum I believe.

While thats true..I have a pretty large cam 6.0 with worked heads....so, ya its gotta be 1-3/4 at least, with the 1-7/8 being ideal. The person who told you that may or may not have been me

with all the LS stuff I have been involved in....to stock stuff to Heads only or Cam only or H/C/I...we always pick the largest tubes available.
Many of these cars are from SC and are on nearly all the 'fastest xyz' internet list....

What about the Dynatech LSX 70-81 CAMARO HEADER SET, they are 1/78".

I saw those posted before, but I haven't seen anyone do it on the old-style 60's mounts. At least in that thread, it looks like all the pics are using the 70's style mounts with the horizontal bolt.

Main point of concern is the angle in which the first primary drops in relation to the mount.

don't be afraid of 1 3/4" tubes. my lq9 based 6.0l puts down 425+rwhp with 1 3/4' mid tubes through a t56, 8.8" rearend w/4.10 gears. torque curve is amazing. this is with stock, untouched 317's and a FMS F13 cam. (230/232, .595/.585). at 3660lbs the car traps 113-115mph.

the 1 3/4" tubes will carry a better torque curve through the rev range than than a 1 7/8". you don't have enough cubes yet(assuming stock bore/stroke combo), and unless you plan to run the engine constantly at 6500rpm and higher, you will never notice a difference.

I mean if push comes to shove, I'm sure they would get me by fine. The new heads I have sitting on the bench are bumping compression a few tenths and flow like mad to .650
It'll be stock cubes until it lets go, but I'd rather not buy swap headers for $700+ twice if I don't need to.

I understand the buy once ideology. If the pickup was a track rat I would be pushing the 1 7/8", a street vehicle will always do a little better with the smaller size, within reason of course. It's kind of like over camming an engine, too much is not always a good thing. My car spends much more time on the street, and I wanted the torque for the street, which is why I chose the grind I did and had him grind in +4* advanced. Also, why I went with the 1 3/4" mid tubes.

I ordered mine direct from DT. I asked about the price and with a little talking was able to get them cheaper than summit had them. They shipped them faster than summit was saying as well.

The drop in price was not much though. They have a hot product and they know it.

I'm installing 1 7/8" LTH. They are Thorley Tri-Ys. I got them from CPP with the whole install kit. They are pricey but really nice with O2 bungs installed.

I am running the DT 1 7/8" headers too, but I would say they are closer to a mid-length than a long tube.

DLW, what year truck are you running them in?

They make that 322 for the 60-66 (the 1-5/8), but I've seen mention of folks doing the 323Y 1-7/8 in the 60-66 as well...even though it doesn't "list" as a fit.

Sorry BR3W, my mistake, I am running the THY-322Y-C which are 1-3/4" tri-y that they call long tubes as well but look more mid-length to me. LM Performance lists them as 1-7/8" and through me off http://www.lmperformance.com/560649.
