What color wood??
Ok,
asking for some creative advice. My wife got me a pine wood kit from MarK that I haven't touched because I can't figure out what color would work on my truck. 66 short fleet. Color on the outside is 'hot rod black' with a red 63 grille and red on the tailgate. Inside is mostly gray, seat is black with a little red and steering wheel is black & red two tone. Door panels match seat material. I was thinking red strips and black wood or red wood and black strips? I would like to see the woodgrain on the wood. Hope the pics help.

Re: What color wood??
natural. The mellow yellow of the pine looks good with black. If you use helmans clear it will darken it. Get some sample pieces at a lumber store and try different colors and see what you might like. I am a carpenter and like the look of natural wood

Re: What color wood??
Gonna have to use your imagination with this one: Black strips, black wood with red grain. Not easily achieved on a weekend, but do-able. The wood is painted black, sanded lightly, and re-painted black. Then red grain filler is applied, dried and fine sanded off. Finally, clear over everything to desired level of gloss.
Can you see it? I'll see if I can find some images of similar effects. Will post if I find something. |

Re: What color wood??
Re-read your orig post. Sorry, this look is not so easy or effective on pine grain. Easier on ash or oak. Kinda cool though, ya think?

Re: What color wood??
I agree.....very cool. I was looking at something similar myself....this is considered a blue stain. I want to do something like this on my stepside. Just did the wood in 2009, but I'd like to change the look of the wood.

Re: What color wood??
Use AkzoNobel's glaze coat and tint your own stain. I've been doing it since 1967,, you can make it anything you want,, why not black with red pins on each side that align with the rails? You can adjust to any opacity you like that way.

Turtleman, what do you mean by red pins on each side?

Re: What color wood??
Pin Stripes ,, a single line of red stain to off set the black. Black board,, thin red line down each side of the board ( one left one right). Then the steel floor bracket..... repeat..
