Some old Heavy Haulers from CA
I take a trip on hiway US-395 every year and have found a good setting of trucks up and down it, that stay the same every year. Thought I'd take some pictures this time. I have no information on who owns what, or even what most of these trucks are.
1) These trucks located at the south end of Bishop, CA. County property. Gentleman let me know that they are "1952 FWD(Four Wheel Drive) that have a capability of locking all wheels together for zero slippage--a lot of guys break the axles when they forget to disengage appropriately" And yes, the orange one is still in service every winter. The yellow one in back has a spun bearing. |

2) All pictures from this set are from the yellow rear truck, thought these tags might be neat to see. Funny pedals make it look like thos big rigs some of you guys drive.

3) First pic is still of yellow snow truck.
Later pictures are of a random old-school salvage yard located in the settlement of Pearsonville, CA. Nothing is known about these trucks and one of the COE's had "Go Away" spray painted on it. |

4) More. First pics are apparently remnants of a old local fire engine. Second to last pic has a COE on the very far right, this one said "Go Away"

6) Red Fire truck emblem on doors say "Lone Pine Fire Dept", about a hour up the road(North).
Truck in last three pictures is a 6x6...thing is huge. Saw one in another thread posted here...Front badge appeared to make it out to be an International Harvester. That's all folks! Last edited by jumpsoffrock; 08-13-2015 at 11:32 AM. |

Re: Some old Heavy Haulers from CA
Great pics of some old Iron.
When I was stationed up in Loring AFB in northern Maine, they had a fleet of those FWD snow-blowers and plows keeping the runways and roadways clean. Those things could tear into a wall of snow and blow the snow a good 50ft away. Awesome machines.

The things I'd love to do with that 6x6. Just need to win the lottery first. |

Re: Some old Heavy Haulers from CA
Cool group of trucks. The FWD company made a lot of neat stuff. It's one of those truck guy''s truck companies, one most won't know of.

Only after I read the door tag did I understand it was an actual corporation. Before that point I was looking everywhere for emblems. I thought it was a converted International tractor(big rig) or something! Shows what I truly know 'bout old iron. Last edited by jumpsoffrock; 08-17-2015 at 07:54 PM. |

Re: Some old Heavy Haulers from CA
At some point they did use IH cabs. I'm wondering if those trucks have Mack L cabs

Re: Some old Heavy Haulers from CA
FWD also used Dodge cabs quite a bit in the 60's and 70's.

Re: Some old Heavy Haulers from CA
Looks like the one you show is an IH. That fire truck in the Wikipedia link has a Reo cab. Now I'm not sure what trucks I was talking about with Mack L cabs. IH cabs found their way onto the lower production company trucks more than any others.
You'll love these Dodge cab FWDs.
