Unusual Items?
I just bought a 72 Cheyenne Super, short wide. Unrestored and appears completely unmolested. All steel appears original. Only non-factory work that I can find is an older paint job and engine paint.
It has a couple of items on it that I have never seen and was looking for help in identifying. On the frame in the engine compartment, next to the exhaust manifolds there appears to be some sort of heat shields. On the back bumper are little rubber steps that look like they were made for this bumper. I have never seen them and they appear to be some sort of dealer installed option. The question is when I restore the truck do I want to replace these items or leave them off.

Re: Unusual Items?
my exhaust manifolds had the original heat shields on them and a pipe that went into the air cleaner( I am assuming for cold mornings) I guess it would be up to you to leave them on, since it is a Super Cheyenne I would , my was just a plain jane work truck and I put headers
Post a pic of the SPID see if they are listed as a dealer option

Re: Unusual Items?
Mine has the heat shields too. Well, 1 of them at least. If you decide not to keep them, I could use the drivers side shield.
I've never seen the bumper step before....interesting.

Re: Unusual Items?
I should have been more clear. Not the heat shields on the manifold, but there is a stamped piece of steel on both sides of the engine, sitting on top of the frame. The passenger side has a mount for the starter cable as well.

Re: Unusual Items?
Those are actually designed to channel cooler air to the exhaust manifolds to keep them from cracking which must have been a problem, and I believe they are a 72 only thing. They are factory.

Re: Unusual Items?
Deal. Like I said, it had one repaint, looks like it was a quick job, but looks okay, shines up nicely.

Re: Unusual Items?
Wow , nice truck. Anybody else catch the stainless around the drip rail? I would have to leave this one as is , fix as necessary & drive it - but it's yours - have fun with it! -Bob

Re: Unusual Items?
Love the truck, but I'm really curious about the bumper pads. Never saw them before but they look made for this application. GM, J.C. Whitney maybe.....
