1984 C-10 - First Project.

I bought a C-10 and am rebuilding it. The plan is to paint it black. Put it on 22in or 24in IROC chrome wheels with a billet grille.

Any advice? This is my first build.

My plan is to start with the interior and go from there. Motor was checked by a mechanic and mechanics are fine. Just looks need to be improved.

Any suggestions on painting the interior of the vehicle. The old color was blue and is on the underside of the dash.

I am having the truck painted but cost of the inside alone is very expensive.

Thanks!

Re: 1984 C-10 - First Project.

Welcome to the forum!

I used to live is SA for about 2-1/2 years. Loved to go down to the Pig Stand for the swap meets and other events around the SA area. Do they still have the swap meet over in China Grove?

As for your truck, looks like a nice solid truck to start with. For the interior, I would take it all about yourself to save on labor costs for the painter if you are having it done at a shop. remove all the plastics, door panels, dash pad and instrument bezel, pull out the carpet and wash it all real good with a degreaser. Anything you can do before paint to cut down on his time will save you money and you can learn more about your truck in the process.

Thanks for the advice Karl! Pig Stand is still a great spot here in SA. We also have a couple places in the NorthEast side. I haven't been to China Grove in a long time but I hear it is still going on over there. I have a 64 Fairlane I like to take out to those spots.

Re: 1984 C-10 - First Project.

If your panels & interior are in good shape, just not the desirable color, dye them! My entire interior was light brown. I used SEM for my door panels, dash pad, and even the carpet! The place I buy SEM from is an hour away, and I needed some ASAP, Duplicolor works just as well. If you do not want to remove everything (I only removed trim around headliner and pillars) buy some blue painters tape and make sure you have good crisp lines. I spent easily a few hours just on applying tape. Make sure they're clean, use some dawn and let them dry well. These trucks are fun, this is my first build also! This website has helped me greatly, stick around!

Here's my door panel. My little satchel on the door was my test, that's why its black in the first pic! LOL

Sorry for the blurry in the picture, don't know why its blurry.

Looks great Zach! I have a lot of work to do but am excited to get going. I bought everything for the doors in black from LMC. It has a new dashpad and headliner with trim but the doors are awful. I am going to take it all apart before I take it in for paint. Thanks for the advice! I'd like to see the rest of the truck!

Re: 1984 C-10 - First Project.

Welcome to the forum. Good looking truck. As for your interior it depends on what you want to do. Do you want it stock looking? Do you want custom work? Myself I like simple. Spend the money where it counts. A nice stock looking interior can make all the difference over a bunch of other door-dahs. Just remember have fun and enjoy these old trucks.

Re: 1984 C-10 - First Project.

Thanks Rusty! I am just wanting to have fun with it. I have a 1964 Fairlane that is stock original everything. This truck I want to have fun with. I'm new to this because the Fairlane was already stock, but having fun learning.
