Disk brakes and lower kit help
So I'm going to do a disk brake conversion front and rear on my 66 C10 and I think I've found the front disk brake kit I'm going to use from POL (see link below). The kit comes with 1973-87 ball joints and tie rod ends. Will I have to change anything else in the steering to make the this setup work? Would it be better to to buy a disk brake kit with out the 73-87 stuff and just stick with the stock 66 style ball joints and tie rods?
I'm also going with the 2.5 drop spindles and 3 inch lowering springs. Will I need a shock relocation kit? Can anyone recommend a good kit? For the rear I'm planning to lower it 6 inches. What would be the best way to achieve this? Would it be good to go with 6 inch lowering springs or 4 or 5 inch lowering springs and then blocks? Will I need to notch the frame? Use the 63-70 conversion spindles.
I see zero advantage of swapping to 73-87. Call www.earlyclassic.com. Use their 6" srop rear springs, rear shock relocators, adjustable panhard bar and shocks. They will also sell you front shocks and springs. These guys have been doing it longer than anyone. And they are truck guys. Not just someone answering the phone that has no clue, like CPP.

I have the Early classic stuff under the back of mine and it works good. I like there super track bar. 67" is getting close to needing a frame notch. May also want to check your pinion angle when you have it all back down on the ground. I used the shorter shocks from Belltech on mine and like the ride and handling. Only reason to go with the 73-87 stuff is if you swap the a arms. If you stuff is in good shape I would go with the conversion spindles like Keith recommended.

Thanks for the reply's guys. Checked out early classics website and it looks like they have some pretty nice brake kits and a nice rear 6 inch lowering kit with the super track bar. For the front it looks like they only sell 1" and 2" inch drop springs? I'd like to drop the front 5.5 but doesn't look like I can do it though early classic. I'll give them a call today and see if I can get a 3 inch spring from them.
I see they also offer a sway bar kit for the front. Are any of you running sway bars? |

I got my drop spindles, disk brakes and stock height springs from early Classic. Also got the front sway bar. It bolted up with no problem and definitely helps with the handling. Excellent customer service to boot.

Like Evoracer said, when you start getting around the 5 inch mark on a static drop the steering and suspension geometry can start getting wacky. There are corrections such as new A arms with more build in adjustability. Also keep in mind as the rear is lowered the wheels aren't " centered " in the wheel wells anymore and start moving towards the back of the truck , can start to look a little weird. This can also be corrected with a lot of work.......have fun with your build

Early Classic drop spindles/brake kit, panhard bar here as well. Springs elsewhere. 4.5/7" drop. Mild C-notch with raised carrier bearing. Pinion angle shims worked ok, now newer model rear end with proper pinion angle.

After looking at a lot of 60-66 static dropped truck pictures and reading all your posts I think the ECE 4.5/6.0 drop is the way to go and the stance looks awesome. I think going any lower will lead to trouble especially with the fact our PA roads are horrible.
