Re: What's is worth

Value always depends on condition.

Out here in the desert, any running pickup with no rust and not seriously dented body is worth $2500. Add more from there:

Nice body and paint - $1000

Good interior - $500

Good crate motor - $500

Good rebuilt transmission - $500

So, about $5,000 is tops for a driver quality restored truck that is not factory correct.

From what I see, body drops or lifts do not add to value. In fact, they may detract from value because buyers may think the truck has been driven hard.

Show quality trucks are in a class of their own. People who want to use the truck as a truck don't buy show trucks.

Re: What's is worth

if it's rust free...with a busted trans, i wouldn't pay more than $1500...Thats assuming the rest of the truck is serviceable with a decent interior, decent weatherstripping, shocks, steering, etc. Assuming it was in solid shape, and i wanted it, I would not want to pay more than $1000...its a long bed which is more useful, but some would consider it less cool. In 2010 I paid $1600 for my '78 shortbed step side, with minor rust in the fenders, running driving 250, 3ott, passed CA smog...drove it away.

Re: What's is worth

A truck in this condition here in Indiana is worth a lot more. The rust free body is really hard to find. I think the drop adds value, but everyone has their idea of what's cool. Around this area it would bring $3-3,500. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Just the carb it's a crate motor that runs great

He's asking 3200 and seeing how I get bored with vehicles and like to buy and sell I don't want to get in over my head I might just let it pass

Longbeds aren't as desirable so if you're looking at it as a profit then I'd pass. Although, offer him 2 grand and see what he says.

Re: What's is worth

It depends on what your end goal for the truck is. If you were gonna lower it then the drop would add value. In Michigan that's a 3k truck or more depending on interior and other mods. I like it and would pay that.

Re: What's is worth

I am just the opposite on the drop....to me it detracts from the value. Having said that, in my area they would probably be asking 4-5 grand for that truck even with the carb issues.

Re: What's is worth

A 37 year old truck with no rust is a rare find. Is it really rust free? Did you check under the frame, cab corners, lift the carpet near the kick panels and floor, inside wheel wells, etc.? A running rust free reasonably straight truck should be worth $2K anywhere, IMHO.

Re: What's is worth

Yeah the market for these trucks will be the short beds,The 4x4s can being some money also. The only long bed 2wds i seen bring good money are the crew cab duallies.A normal bad long bed 2wd most still see them as work trucks or a cheap beater kinda.

Re: What's is worth

I wouldn't go above 2500 around here. I sold a 2wd long bed 85 model with no rust for 500 bucks. Drove it home actually and he drove it away. Condition on the body determine the value for me, because the drive train is cheap to fix if needed, but the bodywork is where the cash flow will go.

Re: What's is worth

The new Crate engine is worth the price of the truck. I think it's a good deal. And I have over 10 k in my engine and it still doesn't run right. So a drive train isn't cheap to fix.
