LS engine, with manual or ram-assist steering?
I've seen a few examples of people using manual steering with LS swaps, buy deleting the PS pump & pulley, and using a shorter belt.
So that's a possibility. What I'd really like to know, would hooking the LS power steering pump up to a ram-assist setup be possible? Would it work? I have a factory RHD truck with manual steering, and after searching the ends of the earth, I came to find there is no power steering box made in my box's configuration. Thanks for your time. Russ |

It should work , no problem. You will probably have to have some custom hoses made up, but that's not hard.

Re: LS engine, with manual or ram-assist steering?
Maual works for sure. By ram-assist, do you mean hydraulic steering like on offroad trucks? FWIW, most HD ram steering systems aren't remotely legal on the street. They also don't return to center automatically so its kinda like driving with a forklift if you've never tried one before.
As far as the power steering pump is concered; its a fluid pump, so technically it can pump TO anything you want. Keep in mind that if there is a large load placed on the pump, there isn't an engine control to prevent it from stalling (no high idle mode).

Re: LS engine, with manual or ram-assist steering?
I assumed he meant a factory ram assist set up, the kind they used on trucks up until 1968. They also used them on Corvettes up until around 81 or so. They work, but are notorious for leaking, but I guess if you cant find a RHD power steering gear box it may the easiest solution.

Guess I never realized they call those ram assists. I was thinking these things.

Thanks for the input.
This is what I'm talking about with ram-assist: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=253657 |
