Anyone use Autometer 5 inch Speedo in there 3100?

Was looking into options for a speedo in my 53 Rat truck project and came across the Autometer 4489 (5"). Looks like it would almost be a match size wise and also looks like I can wire her up to the 89 S10 Donor chassis/drivetrain.

Tried the search button but didn't find any results. Thanks for any help.

I'm running SpeedHut gauges in mine. They are also 5" so I made some sheet metal spacers. For now there just tacked in place but open up a lot of gauge options.

How did they look without the spacers? Why did you need a spacer?

Just curious.

There's quite a few diret fit guages out there, why make spacers/weld the dash?

The only direct fit I saw was around $800 or so for the pair. Know of any cheaper options?

I run Made in USA Omega Kustom 5" tan face gauges from Speedway Motors. Speedo is programable and they are a direct fit for AD trucks.

I used a gauge like that by cutting the back and internals out of a stock gauge set then slipped the new one inside the housing from the front. That set in the dash opening and worked well.

In my case I went with the speedhut because 1. They are custom made per order which gives you many face options, in my case they are blue at night. 2. The speedo is GPS controlled which makes hook up a breeze and does not depend on input from the trans. 3. I was able to use my factory fuel sender unit. 4. They are very programmable with multiple alarm set points. 5. I've had issues with the cheaper brands with both customer support and long term wear issues. My Dolphin gauges look like crap after 2 years. Yes, I did need to modify the dash and that still needs a bit of work. At $650 they are not cheep, many other options out are good but in most cases you get what you pay for.
