I searched this question and couldn't find my answer. My truck is a 67. When I wire up my ls starter I was going to run a hot directly from the battery to the bigger lug on the starter, and the purple wire from the original harness/ignition to the small lug of the starter. Should this work?

Also do I run a constant hot to the lug on the back of the alternator?

Im getting real close to starting this thing and it seems like these little things are keeping me up at night thinking about them lol. This forum has been very helpful and I can't thank you guys enough!

Yes, you can wire your starter just like the 67 was wired. As for the alternator, you will need a wire on that too, thats what charges the battery, you can go to the battery directly or to the starter, doesn't matter.

I'm at this step now. Did run a wire from stud of alt to the starter stud that your battery went to?
What'd you do with original truckside alt harness? unpin at firewall?

I typically run a large gauge wire from the starter stud to the alternator. I think I used 6 gauge last time. From the starter along the left of the engine where the oil pan and block meet. Then around the front using the oil pan bolts and metal cushion with rubber clamps to hold the cable in place. Then on to the alternator.
