Summit has headers on sale for $68 right now....i believe they are the same thing as Dynomax headers, which i have heard good things about on the board.

After ordering some FlowTech headers and getting them from Summit I was NOT impressed when I pulled them out of the box. I sent them back, and I decided to save my $$$ and got some ceramic coated Hooker Competition headers instead. They look WAY better, and I believe will last a whole lot longer.

I bought some ceramic coated Hooker Competition headers for my 71 1/2 ton about 6 years ago from Summit.

Looked good for about 2 years then the coating started flaking off and the header tube began rusting and pitting. In my opinion, they are not worth the $$.

I will probably do what my brother did. He bought a pair of Hedman headers for his Chevelle and hot JET HOT coat them. His are now showing signs of age but still not as bad as mine and he's had his 2 years longer.

I'll probably invest in cheaper headers and have them coated in the future.

Add about $40 to your 1st $100,& you can get painted Hooker comps through summit or Jegs......nice fit, heavvy tubes & flanges, &worth the bucks

I think I've heard negative things about every set of headers available on this board. I picked the Hookers because I heard the *least* amount of negative things.

I also thought about buying non-coated headers and then having them Jet Hot coated, but I heard it was more expensive than just buying them already coated. Was I wrong in that?

Nope! It costs more to have them coated after the purchase....crazyL

HA! That's what I thought...but of course I guess it depends on how long you want them to last.

I don't think I have any worries. I'll be happy with mine.

I agree thier coating isn't the best (not very thick and they don't get in the areas around the collector), I have had good luck w/ the headers themselves, so now we just get the bare metal ones and send them out to "Jet Hot" to get coated before we put them on

#5 is a little tight on my straight plug Edelbrock's, & takes a wrench (also 135 degree boot)the rest of the plugs all come out with a socket/ratchet.......crazyL

These are the Summit brand coated which cost 189.00. They are actually Dynomax brand. These are on my neighbors truck, and as you can see, the collectors hang low as hell. My Hooker collectors were much higher than this. These are too low for a deeply lowered truck.

I used the gaskets that came with the headers, I figured that I'd give them a chance. The truck is still under construction and probably won't be ready to fire up until Spring. No exhaust system yet, I'll probably just double gasket like I usually do, seem to work quite well. The headers really do install very easy. The drivers side goes in best if you do it from the bottom, and if possible have someone up top to assist. Leave them wrapped until you get them in place. The passenger side will go straight in from the top with no problems. Also have the spark plugs out before installation.

I have had real good luck with manifold gaskets. I do cut the flanges on each side of the center tubes. Neat thing about the manifold gaskets is you can start all the bolts then just drop the gaskets into place.

I do like mudder on my hooker super comps...except the cutting thing. Never done that, but I've never had a reason to either. They don't hang much at all, they are higher than the front cross member. They pretty much kick ass.
Krue, I think I may have the manifold you need. I'll have to check though. (Not sure which side I have...but i DO have one.

I have read somewhere that dynomax headers are actually jet-hot coated I had a set on my truck for about 8 months with no problems. I now have Doug thorley headers they are great I bought the nickle chrome plated from summit because the ceramics were backorderd for a month They were $330.
