4l80e w/ Stock Frame
I searched quite a bit and had a hard time finding any info on anyone using a 4l80e with the stock frame (mustang ii front end) and cab. Truck will have a 5.3 in it as well, just want to make sure I don't have to put a tunnel in it to run the 4l80e. Thanks!

Re: 4l80e w/ Stock Frame
I have mocked mine up several times now "behind a 454" and it looks a little tight angle hasn't been set but to me it looks like I will need to tunnel it in my 57 Chevy 3100 with a 74 camaro clip.
Hopefully someone will have a more accurate answer though for you mustang ii front end |

I think you will need a tunnel but there are a lot of variables. What year of truck, which Mustang II front end, and what motor mounts?
It really depends on how low your motor/trans sits, on my '51 I barely fit a 4L60 with my setup and the 4L80's are larger. |

Very true, that sucks. It'd be nice to just out a 6 speed manual in and not worry about fitment haha

Re: 4l80e w/ Stock Frame
Another data point - on my 53 a 4L65E just fits without a tunnel. The 4L80E does have a measurably thicker housing, I have to believe at least a slight tunnel of some kind would be required.

Re: 4l80e w/ Stock Frame
On my '57 a 4.8 / 4L60E *just* fits. I had to choose between chopping the bellhousing cross member out and any hope of removing the trans without yanking the engine, too. I think a 4L80E would be a push.

thanks for the info, I already took that crossmember out so that isn't a concern
