heater duct question

Hello. I was wondering if there was a way of running some vents from the bottom edge of the dash to direct the heat back instead of down? I have the Thrift-Aire heater in my Sub and think it would heat it up a little quicker. Do newer cars or trucks have a "Y" that I could add some ductwork to with aftermarket vents? I cant afford to put a new A/C /heater system in, and have thought about changing to a deluxe heater system but not sure how to go about doing the swap.
Any info, tips, and or tricks would be appreciated
Thanks
