5.3 Power Steering pulley

I need a smaller diameter pulley for my truck power steering pump

Must be one inch smaller in diameter, is there something I can replace this press on ribbed pulley with???

Re: 5.3 Power Steering pulley

Another option would be a pulley from Howe. I have a Saginaw T/C pump on an LS1 (not a truck) I went with a smaller Howe pulley to pull more flow out of the pump for the hydraulic rack I was using, but you could do as Brew City suggests and run a cooler to cut down on foaming/heating on yours

Re: 5.3 Power Steering pulley

Are you running into clearance issues w/ the frame?

Just keep in mind that a smaller pulley will change the pump speed and alter the boost pressure. Thats fine as long as it all feels ok, just keep an eye out for foaming and run a PS cooler if you notice any discoloration in the fluid or hot ps lines.

Re: 5.3 Power Steering pulley

O K, I suspected the pressure would increase, because it will be running faster right, will this change the steering feel or the Hydro boost pressure (braking) at high speeds, high RPM's
!0 -4 on the in line cooler

Re: 5.3 Power Steering pulley

Well it looks nice !
Still need more room, it will not clear the pressure portion of the Rack
5 13/16 still to large
Howe only makes V belt pulley, & CFS racing. March has a 5 1/2"

Hey Solid. Was up early this morning and read your dilemma. So with nothing better to do, I checked out the Dorman catalog. here's some more pulleys you could check. They all are 6 rib with a center bore of .7472"

p/n 300-117 5.3"
p/n 300-131 5.5"
p/n 300-132 5.8"
p/n 300-123 5.18"

Re: 5.3 Power Steering pulley

Well as long as there is not much left hand torque there is enough clearance between the high pressure port/hose this one is going to work (Dorman300-123)

Thanks Folks!
