Belt routing and alternator question?

This maybe a dumb question because I can't seem to find any information on it. If I was to run a belt for only the crank to waterpump then and additional belt from the water pump to the alternator and power steering pump would that cause problems? Or do I need all accessories spun by the crank? The way I have everything mount the alternator is upside down which would make it spin backwards... As long as the fan fins are forward face this should not be an issue right?

I run a belt from crank to water pump and a belt from water pump to alternator. I've always done it that way and never had a problem.

TO "run a belt for only the crank to waterpump" CANT be done UNLESS you run some kind of idler to tighten the belt to the pump

I've been running a belt from the crank to the water pump since 2004. The way I do it is remove the water pump pulley, put the belt around the crank, lay it over the water pump pulley and reinstall the water pump pulley. No idler or tensioner and I've never had one come off.

I originally did it because I was broke and had to use what I had laying around. That being said, the alternator brackets I had didn't line up with the crank, but did line up with a dual groove water pump pulley. It worked for me then, so I stuck with it.

This is exactly why!! I just want to use what I have on hand and everything else I've tried would not line up properly.

this is what i always use sold at speedway motors cheap price for looking good, sold in a short water pump and long water pump. the reasoning behind my thinking is throw one belt at least you wont be overheating your ride and these are a 1 to 1 pulley so for every turn of the motor a turn for the water pump helps with cooling ALOT. you install the belt on the lower pulley and then on the water pump, helps to have the pump loose for installion purpose's and when you tighting the pump down it also tightens the belt.

Finished up the brackets this morning. Everything looks to be aligned properly need to finish some wiring before I can test it. Thank you akaupp. Also white knuckel garage I loosed the water pump pulley to install the belt.

if i may, i believe you have the fan installed backwards

Yup fan on backwards and the alternator belt looks to wide. If you look at the belt going to the crank that is how they should sit in the pulleys.

Looking at older pictures hat's how the fan was installed when I bought the truck. Thank you for letting me know I will flip it around. I was trying to find a more narrow belt but couldn't today. I will look this weekend. Thank you everyone.
