Re: 4l60e swap...
First & foremost, you will need the controller. There are several vendors to choose from.A few are GM themselves,TCI, U.S. Shift. You will need a tach signal to the controller along with a TPS(throttle position sensor)mounted onto your carb linkage. The worst part of what you are trying to do is dealing with the speedo. The 4L60E uses a VSS to send pulses to the controller to run an electronic speedo. There is no provision for a mechanical speedo. There are conversion kits to do this, but, they are very expensive(approx. $500).It may be better for you to consider a 700R4.Just depends on how much you wanna put into it.

Re: 4l60e swap...
Thar Dakota box is similar to the Cable-x as far as what it does yes that should make it work for you. Go to E-Bay and look at trans computers or stand alone trans boxes. You can get the least expensive in the $500 range I think. If your 4L60E is from a LS motor you may need to check about spacers for the torque converter as the set back is farther than it is for a small block[ the distance between the flywheel and converter.]

Re: 4l60e swap...
Won't you need a throttle position sensor, or does the 4L60E still have a TV cable? I thought the E models did away with that, and need either a MAP and/or TPS sensor for the computer box to know what load you're under, kickdown, etc.
Not rocket science to add one, but it's not "standalone" in that the computer just hooks up to power and the transmission and you're done...

Re: 4l60e swap...
Yes, it needs the TPS signal.
I think a cleaner solution would be to rig one to the gas pedal. Some asian cars had a cable routed to a pulley. Pulley had the TPS mounted to it

Re: 4l60e swap...
The 4L60E is basically an electronically controlled version of the 700r4. I don't see any advantage to do this over the 700r4? What are you hoping to gain?
