New guy alert/Never Ending Project
Hi everyone, my name is Brian, I'm 48 and I have too many projects. AND I now have a new "Never Ending Project".
A 1964 K10 v8 4 speed Suburban followed me home last week. It seems pretty solid, and more importantly, I have the wife's blessing on this one....She saw me looking at the ad and told me to go get it before it sells because it will make a great dog hauler. (We have 3 large dogs). It has a replacement 350 in it, but otherwise it seems to be pretty original. It is however missing pretty much all of the interior. Bla Bla Bla...on to the pics |

Thanks DP. We are not all that far apart as far as TN goes. We have season passes to Dollywood so we get out your direction several times a year.
I hope to get a spot cleaned out in the shop and get a good look at this rig next week. The general plan is to work out any mechanical/electrical bugs and put her to work as a shop truck...... and slowly purdy her up.

If you are interested in an original set of seats, let me know. I am removing mine to put in something more modern and with built in safety belts for the kiddos. If you are I can post some pictures.. I have the front seats with sliders and the rear seat. They need to be reupholstered though.

Kool find I like the K models to I had a 70 Burb 4x4 a few yrs back and sold it...I now have a 64 4x4 truck that I've been working on, Congrats on your find, I like them Burbans.

I have been searching the form for paint codes, but I can't seem to find 91640 anywhere. Any Ideas????
I have not started any cosmetic/rust repair yet, but I did sand a spot and found off white or grey or grey primer under baby blue. I have found some usable wheels, ordered tires, replaced all driveshaft u-joints, wheel bearings, steering drag link, and sway bar link ends. Hope to drive it some soon to sniff out/fix any other mechanical issues it may have.

GM painted the trucks a special color for Government and the Military, and, if the client ordered I believe 6 or more trucks, their corporate color would be applied at the factory. Government and Military trucks could have had additional stickers inside the cab sometimes indicating who was authorized to operate the truck.
The standard paint code system had a 3 digit base color starting with a 5 then the next two digits defined the actual color. If it was two tone generally they added 30 to the two digit part to indicate the change to two tone. An example would be 522 for a base color Gray, Georgian. If the truck was optioned two tone the number changed to 552. DuPont was the paint supplier to GM and according to the 63 Truck Data Book the code from DuPont for Grey, Georgian was 93-77784. I see the radio opening has been carved, any other strange holes or parts added that you don't see on other burbs? A 5600lbs GVW rating indicates that this burb was ordered with 17.5" wheels and tires.

Google search shows a DuPont paint code of 93-91640 Fleet Gray for FORD also labeled GSA gray for Willys also labelled Federal Grey. I'm not familiar with US Government vehicles but would the Navy not have their vehicles painted grey. Going out on a limb here.

Are there any holes in the floor in back of the seats? Could have been equipped with an auxiliary heater.

It looks like you were right on a few counts Areotruk. It has holes for the aux heater, and it has 4 holes in the center of the roof for possible light of some sort. It also has had a vent cut into the roof sometime before it was painted blue. Here are a few pix of said items, plus strange mirror, rubber hose pieces under truck, and with new tires and wheels........

Seen that aftermarket rear view mirror before.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BLACK-WINK-S...VUCgDc&vxp=mtr So the rubber hose diameter beside the frame looks rather large for an auxiliary heater or is that simply a camera perspective affect? The holes in the rear floor look like the right size however for an additional heater.

Well, (BIG EXPLETIVE), that's disappointing! It looks like I will be attempting to make some channel next week....I just wish it was only the straight section missing.
I have a truckload of rubber products ordered and I was checking to see what a mess I have going on. It looks like all 4 are going to be in similar condition, but this is the only one I pulled out for inspection...

The roof vent looks like an aftermarket unit. I had one like that in mine then went to the higher smoke colored plastic one, then got rid of it all together. It was 14"X14" and I had a steel plate welded into the hole. I like the rwar view mirror though. I bet you get a good view of everything beside and behind you.

Well, that's not a worst case by far, but uglier than I had hoped. At least there still isn't much rust.
I knew I had some DIY-ish repairs going on in the quarters.....I estimate that I removed at LEAST 2 gallons of kitty hair and mud from the passenger side quarter panel. After a couple smacks with my fist, a large pucker that was full of mud popped out. I will still need to replace the wheel well lip and the butchered lower rear section at a minimum. Access from the inside would sure make things easier, but I'm hoping not to have to go there.
