Steering Column Upper Spring
I need this, http://www.classicparts.com/mobile/1.../#.VrOc9nOIZnE
but I'm not sure what the other thing is. I didn't have a part that looked like that on my last three columns.

Re: Steering Column Upper Spring
I'm curious about this, also. I've been into the column on my '65 several times and into the column on my '66 a couple of times and I know neither one has a spring or cone washer like that in them. The column in the '65 seems like there may be something missing from it, as it has some play in the upper part. I wonder if this spring and washer may be the missing link in mine. Hmm...

Re: Steering Column Upper Spring
from this diagram it looks like it is either a bearing or a washer. My old column had a bearing like that I had to cut off in order to remove. It kept the actual column from sliding up out of the assembly when the column was removed. I kind of wished I kept it on.

Re: Steering Column Upper Spring
Even though many have posted that as a diagram for our trucks, many components in that pic don't look like our column.

Re: Steering Column Upper Spring
Here's another one, but still don't see the above part or the spring.

Re: Steering Column Upper Spring
According to Classic Parts's site, the bearing, spring, and washer pictured at the top of this thread are supposed to be for '60-'63 applications. I don't know if this is accurate, though.

Re: Steering Column Upper Spring
I've replaced the t/s switch in the '65 twice and both times the upper bearing came with the switch. The 1st switch I used was a repop and the 2nd time around I used an AC Delco switch.

Re: Steering Column Upper Spring
The Classic Parts site I link above says it's for 60-66.
What Classic Parts site are you referring to?

Re: Steering Column Upper Spring
If you look at the text below the pic, it says that brg. fits '60-'63 Chevys and '64-'66 GMCs. I didn't realize that there was a difference between the Chevy and the GMC columns from '64-'66.

Re: Steering Column Upper Spring
It's probably a misprint.
I'm not seeing either the spring or that copper looking thing in any diagrams of the 64-66 columns.

Re: Steering Column Upper Spring
Thanks,
I didn't scroll down to read that before. Yes, it is interesting to see they note gmc different than chevy.

Re: Steering Column Upper Spring
From my research the gmc's never switched over to the newer style like the 64-66 chevy's. So the 60-66 gmc's all had the same style.
