mounting LS engine in a flat out engineering corvette crossmember
Has anyone mounted an LS engine in a chassis with a Flat Out Engineering C4 corvette front suspension installed? After mounting the suspension crossmember in my 68 C-10 chassis I am having trouble installing the engine because of the height of the rack&pinion. In order to get the engine low enough in the chassis it seems that i will have to move the engine 10" back.

Here are some threads on oil pans. See if any of them help.... LockDoc http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=565764 http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=684380 http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=685258

Re: mounting LS engine in a flat out engineering corvette crossmember
I have my version of a flatout cross member in my AD. Check out my build for some inspiration or not what to do. Ha! How much room do you have from the valve covers to the firewall? Why do you think you have to move the engine back so far?

Re: mounting LS engine in a flat out engineering corvette crossmember
I have mine mounted, but moved the engine back a good bit. The rack ended up landing between the front of the pan and the balancer. I didn't get the engine as low as I would have liked due to that.

Re: mounting LS engine in a flat out engineering corvette crossmember
Thanks for all the great advice guys! 66shortwide, that is exactly where mine ends up if I move the engine back 10" and seems to be at an acceptable 4degrees downslope but then I cannot get the cab to clear the valve covers. 10" is a lot of setback!

Re: mounting LS engine in a flat out engineering corvette crossmember
with the trans crossmember mounted in the most forward set of holes the engine would be way too high in the front and sticking out over the rack. I looked at your build and if I mount the trans in the rearmost set of holes(10" further back) it will be located exactly where yours is but the cab will have to be cut out for clearance.

Re: mounting LS engine in a flat out engineering corvette crossmember
I wish I had found the info on clocking the rack before I buried the motor 4inches into the firewall. Kinda think it should have been covered in the Flat Out instructions as a heads up but thats why we figure stuff as we go I guess

If I had known about that concern I could have mounted the crossmember lower in the frame so I had more clearance, also would have liked to know what to do with the sway bar since the instructions don't mention it.
