Advice Please - Patina Steel Wheels?
Meet the Grinch! I am just starting to work on this monster and wanted your opinions. Would it look ok to leave these steel wheels in patina and maybe bling them with bullet centers and lugs and maybe thin rings or would it look better to paint the wheels? If so, what color? I ordered a set of 235/75s with thin white walls today. Big thanks!
P.S. I have no idea why my pics are posting upside down. I apologize. |

Re: Advice Please - Patina Steel Wheels?
I'd say shoot them black then satin green to match and scuff some of the green back off to reveal some black.. then mount skinny whitewall facing out with stainless 64-66 dog dish caps.
Or shoot them an almond or biscuit color and paint the white stripes in between your custom trim white.. I think with this color no caps and maybe not whitewall. Here's one of mine... Last edited by NVS-C10; 02-09-2016 at 12:36 AM. |

Re: Advice Please - Patina Steel Wheels?
i've always kinda liked a nice clean set of wheels on a patina'd truck, black or white would look good for sure. That being said you could always try it out the way you're thinking and then if you don't like it you can always paint them later.

Matching patina with less than nice caps, with skinny "dirty" whites is what I used.

Re: Advice Please - Patina Steel Wheels?
I think darker wheels would look good. I am a huge fan of white steelies, but I think darker ones would bring your truck together a little more. I think it would look great if you shot them with red-oxide, top-coated with a similar shade of green (or a shade darker), and then "distressed" them (sand through green to expose primer and then flatten paint).

Greetings to the new member who is obviously from Australia.
I would leave the wheels like they are and add old dog dishes to them. Adding something too shiny to the patina'd wheels will look out of place, IMO. |

Re: Advice Please - Patina Steel Wheels?
with the whitewalls I would paint the wheels satin black with some chrome lugnuts.
I would paint the side stripe off satin or flat white too with a light coat so it don't cover real good. Last edited by 60chevyjim; 02-09-2016 at 11:07 AM. |

Re: Advice Please - Patina Steel Wheels?
This is how my truck looked like when I drove it home, VS when the wheels got a new coat of black Caliper paint and some beauty trim rings from an old Cherokee.

Re: Advice Please - Patina Steel Wheels?
Jim, the engine is ready to put in but the engine bay was nasty from the original engine leaking oil so I'm cleaning it up a little & giving it a fresh rattle can black paint job. I'm hoping to get the engine in next week.
