IDEA: Advanced Design van concept

I've had the idea of morphing the Cab Over Engine cab with a Panel, to create a van built in '47-'53. I ran across a talented illustrator on Flickr, and posed the idea, this is the result.

I can't see the pic but there is a COE panel truck at back to the 50's in St. Paul Mn. every year. I know I have pics of it but can't find it right now. I'd love to see your concept drawing

its marked as adult content

what you COULD do, is take a print screen grab of your desktop showing the picture on the site and then upload that. you arent providing the quality of the flickr site, and it is your content. upload it at a lower resolution like 800x600 so we get the jist.

fifty two that green one looks like a little like a boeing load lifter. room inside to stand up I bet!

Even when I logged into Flickr, I still couldn't find the image. Flickr is a somewhat annoying place to work with, as 89AKurt would say. Since I know him from some place, I managed to squeak in the thumbnail image of it here, from an email of the original link, but now I'm wondering if the larger image at Flickr vanished for unknown reasons.

Re: IDEA: Advanced Design van concept

That would be be cool to build. I guess you will need 2 longwheel base panels to stack ( take the middle out the one ) or cut open the panel body and fill in the middle to get the correct height.
Thanks for sharing the link, it's very cool.

A COE is still a panel to me. Almost note of the words you've capitalized should be.

Re: IDEA: Advanced Design van concept

That wouldn't be that hard to do but it might be a challenge to find the donors without cutting up two decent trucks to do it. A COE with a beat up roof and back side of the cab might not be that hard to come up with though.

No kidding! I'm not thrilled about the front fenders, need to be brought up somehow.

Re: IDEA: Advanced Design van concept

All I have time/money for is building models. This is a pickup version I built. I had chopped the cab, moved the fenders and changed the arch contour, and a few other things to make it look alright. I have another project started, converting a resin Panel into a Canopy Express, so doing a van is out of the question now.

Re: IDEA: Advanced Design van concept

There's a handful of them out there now that are what you want. Just need two bad condition trucks. Be a waste to use a good COE & panel though.

I would love to build something similar to haul my motorcycle in and to use as my work van. I was thinking a COE truck with a teardrop trailer style box on the back. I have 2 COE cabs, plan on using a extended cargo van chassis. Hopefully this will be my next project!

Re: IDEA: Advanced Design van concept

I took this screenshot, and posted on another site (yes I despise Flickr). The artist made the front fenders look better, to match the rear fenders better.

ahh the joys of photoshop, which dont need basis in reality and you can change dimensions to fit better. for example, those wheels and hubcaps are at least 24" in diameter, and the front tire would be over the fender if you drew the circle the rest of the way
