rearend swap questions

Hello everyone. I'm new to the site but have been using it for most if my truck build. I'm restoring a 1984 c10 swb and have questions on the rearend. Currently there is a 1976 12 bolt being used with 3.73 gears. It has open differentials and I am wanting a limited slip. My question is should I buy a posi unit and have it installed or swap to a newer rearend. I am also wanting rear disc. I haven't been able to find an old thread to help me figure out what will work. Any and all help is appreciated.

Re: rearend swap questions

The newer rear ends are wider than your factory rear. You can use it but will need wheels with a offset like the newer trucks have. Then you would need spacers for the front to have a matching set.
There are 12 bolt posi units for trucks on the internet for around $300.Maybe cheaper on craigslist. You can also buy weld on brackets for your rear that use GM front calipers and slip on rotors.I think afco has bolt on ones now too. (You would not have a ebrake with this setup)

Hope this helps...

Re: rearend swap questions

Welcome to the site. I'm not much of a rear end guy. Where in CenTex are you? As far as disc brakes you can check out http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/Weldon.html I buy a bunch of stuff from them, really good company.
