67 Longbed GMC Patina 5.3 T56 Driver
I've been searching posts and stealing info off of here for a while now, and I'm just starting my build. Let me know what you think.
I got the c10 last fall off of craigslist after searching for the right one forever. The ads title was "gmc" the description didn't have a picture or even say the year... I got it for $500.00 it's got leafs and a bad dana 44 in the rear, 3 speed and an I6 250. The goal is to make it a driver, go fast and make noise. I love the patina look if it's not too crazy and it fits my budget since I just built a shouse. My boss gave me a 5.3 out of his wife's yukon that the cam went bad in. I put an LS9 cam in it, New lifters, valve springs, had the valves and seats cut and a little bit of other stuff. The T56 I got for $1000.000 and came complete with everything from an 04 GTO including clutch, pedals, and hydraulics. Right now I'm working on trading a guy for a a 64 frame with a fresh 72 12 bolt with posi and leaf spring perches flipped, front brakes and power steering from a 72, and drop spindles. Blah blah here's the truck. |

Yeah, I was pretty jacked when he sent me the picture of it. I like the white grill actually.
I should be getting the 12 bolt tonight and throwing it in. Then I need to decide on wheels. Thinking about 17" soft 8s... |

Re: 67 Longbed GMC Patina 5.3 T56 Driver
Well haven't had a lot of time but got the New flipped rear end mocked up and what I figured would happen happened. This pickup had a camper in the back of it most of it's life so the springs are shot. (Frame is sitting on the axle) I have some coil overs for it though so now I just need to decide to do the truck arm suspension or build a 4 link...

Re: 67 Longbed GMC Patina 5.3 T56 Driver
Finally had a good weekend on the pickup. Went and got another chassis with the truck arm suspension. Took the bed off and got all the leaf spring brackets off. Those rivets are a pain until you figure it out (air hammer is a must).

Thanks 68bowtie.
Made more forward progress tonight. Got the rear end and truck arm suspension out of my other chassis except the track bar and mount (thinking I'll just get a new setup), mounted the cross member and the coils (I didn't powder coat them orange...). Gunk, pressure washing, and bolting it up tomorrow |

Re: 67 Longbed GMC Patina 5.3 T56 Driver
Suspension is in. Just need a new brake line, shocks, and a CPP pan hard bar kit. I like the way it sits with just lowering coils, hopefully putting the bed on won't affect it too much.

Looks like a great project- if you don't get crazy, you won't have a lot in this

Re: 67 Longbed GMC Patina 5.3 T56 Driver
Got the rear suspension all done. ECE shock relocate kyb shocks and some rustoleum. My truck didn't have a sway bar either so I took the one off the chassis I got the truck arms off of.
Just need to cut a coil out of the front now. |

Re: 67 Longbed GMC Patina 5.3 T56 Driver
Haven't done anything to the pickup for a few weeks. It was in a friend's wedding as the "gift table". I've been driving it a little bit for s&g's. But I built some LS swap plates at work today. Going to pull the motor soon.

In for this one. Love the patina. And the grille. And the fact that it's a 67.

Re: 67 Longbed GMC Patina 5.3 T56 Driver
Finally doing a little work this week. Ordered cpp engine stands, a bolt kit for the LS1 intake, and some motor mounts. Took the front clip off and chissled and scraped 50 years of grease and dirt off of suspension parts. Not sure what the plan is on the front suspension yet. Need to get a flywheel coming so I can mate the motor and trans. Going to cut the trans tunnel and get a high hump coming so I can hopefully get the power plant in. There's been more beer drinking and day dreaming than work for the last little while...

Really neat project man. I don't know what could be funner than an LS in one of our trucks with a T56 too. Talk about ultimate in fun and reliability, and all that in a 67' long bed. Just seems perfect to me Great job so far!

Keep up the good work! Cool ride.
Check out Core Shifters for options for the T56. I ended up using the forward inspection plate location for my Magnum trans shifter. My engine is located back near the firewall though. Russ

Re: 67 Longbed GMC Patina 5.3 T56 Driver
Thanks guys! I've been looking into the shifter location. I saw a truck on here that kept the rear location and I like where it was positioned but it might just be easier to transfer it.

Re: 67 Longbed GMC Patina 5.3 T56 Driver
Got the motor mounts yesterday. Couldn't help it so I mocked up the motor tonight, Everything fits great. It's in the farthest back position with plenty of room(without the transmission). Going to pull it back out and paint everything tomorrow. I'm going back and forth on painting the bottom part of fire wall, I like the factory oil pen marks and original over spray... What's your opinions?

Nice project!! Should be a fun driver
Leave the firewall I don't care for the black that a lot of people put on them

Re: 67 Longbed GMC Patina 5.3 T56 Driver
Nice build. Do you know what size rims and tires are on the back of your truck now that you have the rear suspension sorted out? That's a nice stance!
