Carb help

Hey all I have a 85 with a 4.3 in it also it is a 3 speed. I want to do away with the stock carb and put a edelbrock on it. Will I have to change the distributor to one that has VAC advance on it? And any forseeable probs I might run in to?
Going to use a adapter plate. And is the carb I have on there now computer controled?
thanks for the help
