Grey I-6 What is it?
It is in my 66 Canadian built fleetside. This has to be the 230/250 or maybe even smaller 199? What vehicle did a grey engine originally come out in? If a 250 I would put in rings, bearings, gaskets and paint to blue. If a 230, maybe. The smaller one, no way. I'd like to know before lifting the engine. The truck has about 105k miles so still possibly the original. Thanks.

Can you post the casting numbers?
I know your finger slipped, it's 194 which only came in the passenger car line up. And your sure it's not a 292?

Re: Grey I-6 What is it?
230's and 250's were painted blue.
292's were green. Pull a spark plug and look at the piston. If the piston is Flat Top then you have a 230. If it is dished you have a 250. If you have a 292 the engine will have 6 inch side covers. 230/250 has 4 inch side covers.

Re: Grey I-6 What is it?
Canadian and American engines were not always painted the same, have to be careful.

Re: Grey I-6 What is it?
Yeah just got back in and no luck with the flashlight but sliding a long Robertson #2 across the top showed a raised portion at the back 1/2" of the piston. I guess I can call it a 250.
I was thinking the same that maybe Canadian built trucks got painted differently. I'll have to think of trading in my can of blue for grey. Any truth to the rumour some of these trucks were also built in Saskatchewan? |
