When I bought my psi harness the dealer told me I could get it made in custom length if needed..my next one will be custom length due to me mounting ecm under or behind the seat as well as maf sensor pigtail being a little longer,,

Re: Need a longer dbw harness
I just bought the correct color wiring and extended it myself. Soldered and heat shrank each slice. Took about 20 minutes.

Re: Need a longer dbw harness
Where did you find the wire that matches the various colors found in the GM harness?

Re: Need a longer dbw harness
$40 worth of junkyard harness, soldering iron, solder and heat shrink will fix it. its just wires, not magic.

Re: Need a longer dbw harness
IMO on DBW components I prefer re-pinning the harness instead of extending it. The DBW wires can be soldered, but it needs to be done VERY sparsely. Those circuits are a mix of 1.5v and resistance signals, both of which are fairly sensitive to incremental changes. Overheating of the wire, or over use of the solder or flux can create a hot-point and change the resistance across the wire. Not something to be done unless your very confident with the solder, and preferably have fine electronics soldering experience.
This can cause error codes if it creates values outside its range, or provide skewed signals which IMO can be frustrating and sometimes dangerous for both the engines health and driver control. Most of those WeatherPak connectors can be disassembled with a thin flathead, and each wire de-pinned from the connector. The pins can be ordered in bulk if they cannot be reused. Then the custom length wires can be measured and cut, pinned into the connector and installed. Its a pain, but its a really nice way to get your own "custom" harness, it requires less talent then solder, and looks soooo nice when done.

Re: Need a longer dbw harness
Thats interesting Brew, I am working on a gen 5 harness and was making my DBW stuff and just going at it. It will give me something to look at if I do throw some errors. I had added some wire and a disconnect trying to make a nice clean setup maybe the thing to do but know I know what to look for if it gives me fits.

Re: Need a longer dbw harness
Trailer supply places, any automotive wiring retailer online, and some good electronics or electricians supply house (just be wary that your not buying construction wiring, which isn't vibration resistant).
