Re: 66 c10 standard vs. custom steering wheel
IF the horn button is round then it is standard wheel
Here is a custom http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=680473 and http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=539657 Post #2 here is a standard wheel http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=210674 Last edited by jtrichard; 07-02-2016 at 04:10 PM. |

Re: 66 c10 standard vs. custom steering wheel
Only have the wheel. No horn ring.
Is the ring the only difference? |

Re: 66 c10 standard vs. custom steering wheel
No, by looking at the link in post 4 the 60 to 65 deluxe wheel has the spokes at 3 and 9 o'clock, the 66 deluxe in that link has them more like a standard wheel where the spokes are at around 4 and 8 o'clock. Kinda looks like the standard wheel has the spokes angled down just a tad more though, hard to tell from the pic

66 used a "new wheel" (just happens that it is also the same as a 65 nova wheel) this wheel is completely different than the previous 2 wheels, standard had a horn button, and deluxe had a horn ring. pic of deluxe 66 only wheel:

Re: 66 c10 standard vs. custom steering wheel
I was needing that same information as well. Forum member, 60-66, gives detailed answer at the end of this thread.

Re: 66 c10 standard vs. custom steering wheel
There are three 1966 steering wheels. Top left 1966 Deluxe wheel, Top right 1966 same wheel as deluxe but a small horn button . The bottom standard steering wheel that was used in all years with variations in color , per year.

Re: 66 c10 standard vs. custom steering wheel
No , I see where I may have mis lead you and fixed my mistake. The top two wheels are identical , only difference is you swap out horn rings and parts. Bottom wheel was used 1960-1966 but there were three different colors. Dark Grey 60-61,white 62-64 and fawn on some 1964s and fawn 65 66.

Re: 66 c10 standard vs. custom steering wheel
An early wheel on a 66? that's news to me, Jon. Not saying you're wrong (as you never are), just that I've not seen one before. Another plant-specific item maybe? Perhaps I just never noticed.

Re: 66 c10 standard vs. custom steering wheel
What I've noticed, Bruce is 1966 3/4 ton trucks seem to have the early wheel unless its a custom truck. Factorystock referred to the steering wheel as the "heavy duty" steering wheel in another thread. I have a couple 66 parts trucks here with that wheel , not sure why or what reasons for it other than what I've seen and they are C20s. Its also the ONLY wheel you could get in 1960-1966 GMC Custom or standard.

Re: 66 c10 standard vs. custom steering wheel
So, Afirehawk1 - to ultimately answer your question (and it has pretty much been answered) - if you have #1 of 60-66's 3 wheels - you have a 66 Custom where. If #2 of 60-66's 3 wheels - you can add the big horn ring to #2 and make it a Custom. The wheel itself is identical. If you have #3, it is what it is. And to avoid any confusion - the first reply you received from jtrichard - the first pic is a 65 deluxe wheel, not a 66 (and it is one of my favorite wheels).

Re: 66 c10 standard vs. custom steering wheel
What is the outside diameter of the 1966-only C-10 steering wheel?
