Ls 4.8 question
I have a what I believe to be a 2004 or 2005 4.8 no computer or wiring harness. I found a guy that has a truck intake for a 2008 5.3. Would it work on my motor and when I get harness and computer do I need to tell them anything in specific?

Re: Ls 4.8 question
A 4-bolt throttle body that fit's Gen IV intakes are not compatible with Gen III electronics without a pricy interface module, Or a 3-bolt too 4-bolt TB adapter.
Gen III truck intakes are hard to give away.....So you shouldn't have trouble finding one. |

Re: Ls 4.8 question
The 2008 intake is a performance improvement over the older style, but I do not know what it takes to make it work with an older engine and computer.
I believe a 2004 or 2005 engine should have a 3 bolt drive by wire throttle body on it. I have a full intake with injectors and throttle body off a 99 engine I don't need that I would sell, but it is drive by cable. You will need to decide what you want, and how that will work with your engine and computer needs. I am not very knowledgeable about the stock computer situation because I won't be using one. edit: In case you want it, 100 plus shipping for the 99 intake with injectors and drive by cable throttle body. It has been through an industrial parts washer (similar to a giant dishwasher) so you won't find another one that is as clean as this unless it is new. Re: Ls 4.8 question
Thanks for the replies.. I don't have a wiring harness or a computer so I will have to be getting a standalone harness with pcm. Or just go carb

Re: Ls 4.8 question
The unit needed for the GenIV throttle body is an interface module that flips the voltage sweeps. They work on opposite scales and have different drivers controlling the stepper motor in the the TB
Its around $350

Re: Ls 4.8 question
of coarse you could get a drive by cable throttle body... they are not super expensive.
Just one example

Re: Ls 4.8 question
Cable throttles are annoying in some cases. Most aftermarket TB's in general have massive air bleed problems to sort. Since GM stopped using the cable TB's all together mid-genIII, there aren't "normal" base files you can just grab to use for something like IAC if you intended on having it. The dbw system has idle controls which involve physical control on the throttle blade, as well as things like modified progressive or non-linear throttle sweeps (if your ballsy or have a crazy setup).

Re: Ls 4.8 question
I personally am not big on going carb with these engines. It will still not be "cheap" since you will need an intake, carb, and harness and computer of some type to control the coil packs.
