1956 Chevy 6400 2-ton
Hello everyone. Im looking into buying a 56 6400 truck that has the Big 6 bolt pattern wheels that im pretty sure are split rims based on what the guy that currently owns it is saying. I was wondering what my options for rims are. I was thinking of taking a 96-00 3500HD and stripping it and using the 454 and nv4500 in it to put in the truck with the 2-speed rear end. If nothing else I guess I could put the front and rear out of it in the 56 and run the 5 lugs from it. But anyway. I appreciate any info ya got. Thanks!!

The original wheels should be Firestone split wheels if they are still on it. They look like regular wheels on the outside, but split in the middle. Most people consider them unsafe. If you just want to change wheels, 6 lug military lock ring wheels will fit, and you can have tires mounted by truck shops. For a true one piece wheel, 6 lug 22.5s are out there but hard to find. You can mount modern radial tires on these, but that would cost you a bit.

Friend put his on a 90ish dually frame, 454 4wd auto trans. He shortened the frame to work with the 8' flat bed. Wheels are 22" alcoa with converters to the standard GM bud type. He is a welder and builds trailers for a living so the fabrication was not a big deal. Sold it in the spring for $5K, body was rust free big truck.

would say so! I have over 10 in mine! 454 with 4 speed and atlas torque splitter. That was a nice truck. The tires and wheels and adapters were the expensive stuff.

6 lug 22.5 is the way to go. Start calling big truck salvage yards. International had them until late 90's. Tons were on school buses. They are out there and I have paid 10 to 25 bucks a piece for them.
