Gas Monkey AD

There has been a thread running about the 3100 these clowns built that that reportedly sold for $150k on the show.

Low and behold; An ad popped up this morning on FB: Win a Gas Monkey Icon!
sponsored by Havoline oil. Same truck.

Thought the $150k was a big stretch, where it was worth $50k.

MAYBE

Jessica Rabbit's not real? I'm heartbroken. The only thing left to believe in is conspiracy theories.

Bigfoot is more plausible than the prices these guys get for their builds

Re: Gas Monkey AD

I'm always confused by these shows. They do all these builds, some great some crap, which are supposedly sold or delivered or auctioned off - - but much later they are still in their shops? They're still there several seasons later - what's the deal?

Not everything you see on t.v. is true. GMG proves this theory weekly.

Re: Gas Monkey AD

Well some damned fool with deep pockets, a belly full of Barrett Jackson scotch and a want for 3 minutes of fame might bid 150K on that truck. I don't watch any of the rat rod relate shows and don't much care to watch the shows that always are centered around how much profit the can make off a rig and much drama they can create.
I did watch the Gasmonkey show (s) with Brian Bass on them as my wife and I knew his parents when we lived in Texas and knew him as a kid who was close to the age of our son at the time. That an Brian turns out some nice work in his shop.

About the only car show we watch all the time is *****en rides and that is because they emphasize quality work and never upon never mention cost or profit although you know the customer paid through the nose.

Re: Gas Monkey AD

Please don't get me started on that AD build. I had to turn it off. What a mess they made of that cab.

Just FYI, If a hood fits when you take it off then going back on it will fit if you don't bugger up the cowl work. I don't think that crossed their minds.

Re: Gas Monkey AD

any reality tv turns me off, it's not the subject matter, it's the presentation
3 minute intro, 3 minute commercial break, 2 minute rehash of the intro, 2 minute new stuff, 3 minute commercial break, 2 minute rehash of previous, 2 minute new stuff, repeat, repeat, repeat until everybody is bored to tears and watching something else
each 1 hour show has ten minutes of actual new stuff to ad to the show

reality tv should follow "this old house" format when they actually do and show stuff

Re: Gas Monkey AD

We gave up television in my house 5 years ago. Of course I've heard of these shows but I've never seen an episode. Although I occasionally miss TV, I usually watch the Superbowl at someone's house or catch the Stanley Cup at a sports bar, but you guys just confirmed that giving up TV was a good decision. Sounds like even the shows I might be interested in are a waste of time also.

So you can't watch any amazing documentaries of National Parks or bird migrations or anything? TV has as much good as bad. And of course, everyone's favorite pastime on forums is to make themselves feel superior by belittling someone or something else. If you take these guys' word without seeing for yourself you're only depriving yourself. Sure, the television car shows are cheesy, but it's really cool to see a barn find beater turned into a spectacular masterpiece. I've learned a lot from these shows - and they sure beat the hell out of "Dancing With The Stars."

I get what you're saying, and it's a personal choice. We own a nice 7 year old flat screen and we will sit down on a Saturday night and watch a movie as a family but that's it. I'm 43 yrs old, work full time, married with two kids. I don't have much free time and I just think any extra time I do have can be spent better than channel surfing. I think that applies to my household, get outside play in the dirt, throw the ball with the dogs, play a game of uno, climb a tree and read a book. To each his own, that's just how we do it...

Re: Gas Monkey AD

My favorite brother in law has been a professional paint & body man for about 25 years. He visited the monkey shop a while back and said their quality was not what they make it out to be on TV. He said that if I went to work there I would be their #1 guy and I am strictly weekend warrior.
