Intake from a C4 LT1 96 Corvette

Does anyone know what would be involved in replacing the carb on a 86 GMC pickup to an intake from a C4 Lt1 Corvette? May be easier to change out complete engine but what then needs to be done? I am sure a computor is involved with donor motor. Anyone done this to their truck?

An Lt1 intake would not be an easy swap. The bolts into the head are a different pattern and there is no hole in the back for a distributor.

A better swap would be either TPI or a stealth/mini ram. Those will both bolt on to your heads and be fairly easy to track down all the wiring stuff.

It doesn't work that way. They are different motors, completely.

I can say with 100% certainty that you cannot put an LT1 intake on an 86 Gen 1 engine. They are two very different breeds.

You'll need the complete engine, wiring harness and PCM. It's not a difficult swap, compared to some other options out there, but it's by no means a cakewalk. My TBI swap was 5x easier, and I've owned an LT1 car that I "upgraded" to an LT4 after owning it a few years.

They're great engines, but they are on their own little island as far as interchangability.

Blessed66, Tell me more about your TBI swap, please. Did you do a complete engine swap or just swap TBI intake and computer? Thanks

Well, anything is possible with enough $$. You can, but it involves a head swap to the LT1 heads. Then you have to drill the ends of the heads and plumb to a remote thermostat housing as the LT1 intake does not have the front water ports or t-stat/radiator hose mount. I remember the result in the article was a decent HP gain, but a loss in torque.

As someone already said, a TPI swap would be a better choice. The TPI intake is awesome for torque.

Swapping in the entire LT1 would be easier than trying to swap just the intake, but then you have do deal with all the LT1 issues.

Tuning into this as I'm about to swap in a 95 caprice lt1 into my 87 TBI suburban.
