Headlight Buckets

1985 Custom Deluxe LWB.

I have taken my front end apart and started painting and powder coating. All has gone well and it's going back together and I'm up to the Headlight Buckets.

GM did not think too much of these as they are NOT stamped with a part number or any kind of marking??? I assume they are original as everything else in the front of the truck was. (Grill, core support, valance panel, etc.)

As pictured, these are different in the clocking of the tabs in the back. (see pics, one installed, three waiting) And because this is the one time I did not take a hundred photos before taking it apart, I have no idea which one is high beam vs low beam or Left vs Right?

I do have the Quad Headlight front end so there are 2 with the tabs at 2:00 and 8:00 and 2 with the tabs at 10:00 and 4:00.

Can anyone post some pics of their Quad Headlight set up so I can figure out which one goes where?

Thanks in advance

Re: Headlight Buckets

If someone could take a pic of the back of the core support, that would help too. Just as long as it shows the orientation of the headlight buckets.
Thanks,
Jay

Re: Headlight Buckets

It should be fairly easy - look at where the adjusters are. They really only fit one way.

Re: Headlight Buckets

yeah, I did that and figured out left from right. however, each set for left and right have different tabs in the back. (where the plug goes) One at 10:00 and 4:00-the other two at 2:00 and 8:00.

So which one is for the high beam and which one is for the low beam? They fit in each place on the core support and both headlight bulbs fit in each bucket.

It is very UN-like GM to make them different without some kind of reason. The only thing I can think of that makes difference in that area is the headlight plug itself.

I just don't want to put these in only to later discover why and have to take them out again. I hate rework.

Re: Headlight Buckets

According to the parts manual:

5966080 - LH Upper
5966081 - RH Upper
5966082 - LH Lower
5966083 - RH Lower

There are multiple pics of each one on ebay, should be able to narrow it down.
