1955 (2nd gen) gmc paint code
Well after much googling, a trip to my local paint Store and a search on this site I am striking out finding out what colour code 539 is.
I have a 55 gmc, 2nd generation that was built in canada. Inside the door is the paint code stamped on the vin plate. That paint code is 539. Anybody out there with some insight? Thnx😊 |

If all else fails, go to the forum at OLDGMCTRUCKS.com has some links and tech info on our Canadian trucks. There's lots of help there about restoration topics and fellow Canadians too.
Failing that, I will be home in a couple days and can look it up in my manuals. Perhaps someone here can confirm it for you? Darcy

Re: 1955 (2nd gen) gmc paint code
Now that I'm thinking straight, I am curious about what exactly you're looking for. Are you looking to buy some (blue?) paint that matches the color 539?
539 "IS" your color code... are you looking for a paint formula? I did a quick search for "539" in this forum and right away I got this hit. There are likely more too. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&highlight=539 Please provide more details and we will try to help.

Re: 1955 (2nd gen) gmc paint code
What I'm looking for is the name of the blue colour. From what I could find there are two blues that are similar for that year, the small areas on my truck where I can see a hint of the original paint are too marked up to determine which blue it is. I'd just like to know which blue is 539
Thnx😊 |

Re: 1955 (2nd gen) gmc paint code
That's assuming 539 is blue, the blue areas I see may not even be the original paint
But the vin tag is original, and it says paint 539 on it |

You could also buy off ebay or other places an original color chip card for your truck. Just be aware that the original paint on your 55 is over 60 years old and will have changed from the original shade. Don't get hung up on what the "formula" is because it will be different for every paint company out there as long as they can make "539 Aqua or Placid Blue" you will have an original color.

Re: 1955 (2nd gen) gmc paint code
Here are your colors.
http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/chipdisp...fo=yes&page=21 Aqua Blue is 11368 and Placid Blue is 11369. Now be careful in that computer screens will naturally change color and so will color printers so only use this as a guide. Good luck. Show us some pictures of your truck... we all like pictures!

Re: 1955 (2nd gen) gmc paint code
I have been to the paint Store, I have samples including the picture you posted, I still can't tell which colour it is as there is very little left on the truck and what is there is in bad shape.
All that I have now is that paint code. 😭 |

I may not even paint it the original colour as I'm leaning towards aspen green with the dover white trim.

I don't have many pics, here is an old pic from a couple years ago, the truck has been sitting and I am finishing it this winter
