Need Some Help - Firewall Shavers 64 C10
Need some advice from folks who have installed firewall shavers. I bought some shavers from Brandon at SELMADE Fab. Great stuff! I see two ways to do this.
First, cut out the entire perimeter of the firewall and then flange it a 1/2 inch all the way around and spot weld the new shaver in (18 gauge steel). Second, cut just the areas that protrude (around the brake and steering mounting area), weld the new shaver in over existing metal around the perimeter and blend it. I see plenty of the after photos but have never seen any pictures or explanation of how to do it and what was cut out. This seems to be a popular mod so perhaps we can get a thread going on how to do this? I promise to provide pics of the whole process! Wife got me a new Miller-Matic 211 for X-mas and I'm eager to play with it. |

Haven't seen this done but wanted to say, nice welder. That is the one I am looking to replace my Snap-On welder with.

Re: Need Some Help - Firewall Shavers 64 C10
Selfmade does awesome work and is totally reasonable on price. My buddy did his and he cut his old firewall flat. Primed it and welded new pieces over it. I did it the old way and cut out the firewall and that sucked, but turned out nice. My new truck I will end up shaving, but don't know the plan of attack yet.
