I have the coulmn shift from my 58 3 on the tree you can have. I'm not sure of the differences between the 56 & 58 but it's yours if you want it. PM me if you interested.

How can you tell the difference? I have one but it's from an AD, are they the same? Just this one piece he needs.

Thanks again guys. I dont know what the difference is between the years but I do know that from 55-59 the column shift knob it the same. LOL. That doesn't mean it will work but I am desperate the find one as I can't find anything online for sale. I can find the springs, pins, bushings but not the actual column shift lever. I guess most people replace the steering column and toss them away and its really not a big sought after part to reproduce. Anyways thanks again and if one of you know if the 58 would work on the 56 I'd appreciate the info.

Without finding a factor parts number for the shift lever you would have a hard time telling unless one of the more well versed TF guys knows the difference.
The difference in the parts may be the length of the shaft between the shift handle and the shift. Is there a difference in length between the 55/57 columns and the 58/59 columns?

doesn't the difference come from having either a flat steering wheel, so longer column, or a dished wheel, so shorter column?
