First 4x4

After having probably 6 or7 2wd squares i figured it was time for a 4wd. Unfortunatly i lost my phone halfway thru rebuilding it so i lost quite a few photos but hopefully ill be able to recover them to share
The first few pics are of the day i bought it,it hadint left the farm in 18 years and definently needed some love. I had to throw a old carb i had on it and limped it the 1.5 hour drive home

Re: First 4x4

Its a 1981 gmc sierra classic 4x4 with a 350/350 combo ,the box was rusted out so the previous owner swaped it for a very nice fairly strait box.As i am a bodyman/painter by trade i did not want to get carried away with the bodywork and paint because i want to drive the **** out of it and not have to worry about a littld scratch so gravel guard and spray balms it is, i spent less than $250 on the paintjob and the flat colors really hide the dents and rust pits quite well, a gallon of rust mort and fibreglass later here inwhat i came up with

Re: First 4x4

Next up was the wheels.i found a set of bf goodrich 33s for a steal at $300 for all 4 from a local listing with about 70% tread, after a quick paintjob on a set of old rallys i had kicking around the wheels were goood to go.the second pic is on a hoist and thats what it would look like with a 3.5 inch lift ,next up is that gutless old 350

I like what you did with the wheels. They really tie into the truck nicely.

I really like that as well. Very nice. I can't quite make out what you painted on the fenders. What is it?

Re: First 4x4

Thought id do a bit of a update as its been almost two months since i started this thread and four since i started the truck.
I cleaned up the old 350 put a cam, headers, and a carb on it, still seems terribly gutless unfortunatly so im thinking i may drop in a 350 i have built up for my wrangler matched up with a 700r4, it looks great though

Re: First 4x4

Got to playing with the dash the other night as it was getting pretty dim and i think i have the worst dashpad known to man, i painted the backsides of the cluster neon orange aswell as the pins then clearcoated the guages and im very hapy with how it turned out, ill have to take some pics at night it glows orange and looks awesome.

I like the truck and the utility approach to making it look cool. What did you use to clear coat the gauges?

Re: First 4x4

I just used a spray balm clear, it was tricky cleaning the guages because the white paint comes off very easily even with a damp cloth
