I blame this on the pickers.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/122377608523...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Am I missing something? I don't care if the paint is original, I'd have a hard time paying over $5K for this truck. The pickers has made people think junk has value. Junk does have value, it's value is priced per pound. |

Re: I blame this on the pickers.
Well it's got 11 bids so that's actual demand, but I can't believe it hasn't hit it's reserve. Nothing incredibly special about this truck that I'm missing, is there? 85K one owner is nice and all, but it's been used hard.
If it were a special truck it'd be a great candidate for a restoration and if it had a big block I'd give you $8K for it, but it doesn't. While I never ***** and moan about what other people pay, I don't claim to understand it in this case. But that's OK, I'm not buying. One thing: "You cannot replace how an original unmolested truck drives. " That's almost true. My restored truck drives like new. But I've driven a lot of 'restored' and repaired vehicles that were abominations to drive, so there's some truth to this. If I were heading out cross-country I'd rather do it in most people's old cars than most people's fresh restorations! But mine sorted out nicely so it can be done...

Re: I blame this on the pickers.
The truck looks good, but the price is inflated. Have a look at the bidder list. My bet is that y***e(3) is shill bidding ( 80% of his total eBay activity has been on this one listing ). Nobody can prove it true or false though.
This will likely be one of those you see relisted after completion of the auction, even if reserve was met and the auction should have concluded with a sale. They'll say the winning bidder didn't pay up. -klb

people pay good money for that.. it's at a dealership = extra added on as far as price.. Members here sell clean used door shells for 800.oo each. I'm sure they'll get their price.. It's also a good way to place a cheap ad for the dealership.. a person see's this and then welp. lets see what else they got.. That ebay ad fee, is gold in marketing.. How many eyeballs you think they got on other vehicle they have with this one listing?? Yup ,you're missing something.. Same reason ford dealers put 50k mark up on GT40's and 5-10k on Shelby's.. It gets traffic, and if someone decides to pay it, all the better. You said pickers, so I was thinking a rusty, pantina pos.. |

Re: I blame this on the pickers.
I agree with all the points here.
Sure the pickers are messing with the prices. The TV shows are also messing with things. (Same thing with real estate flippers) But as pointed out...11 people already bid on the truck, so there are certainly people interested.

Re: I blame this on the pickers.
It's a nice truck. Not $16K nice, but it is nice the guy's been watching too many auction shows. Someone needs to tell him all the tie down rings, beat up bed, and thrashed seat, and "custom arm rest on the passenger side, make worth a little less than his asking price. And wouldn't the oars rests be red, to match the rest of the interior? I would venture to say it has been repainted, since the outside doesn't come close to matching the bed. My .02

Re: I blame this on the pickers.
It's been posted for sale multiple times. Not sure if this is the new owner trying to flip it again, or the same guy relisting it.
The truck has quite a few issues. One big one that jumps out to me is how crooked the front bumper is. Is that from frame damage or are the mounts just completely toast.

Re: I blame this on the pickers.
Agree. The driver's front fender and hood appear to have been re-painted. They do not show any signs of the patina or age that the rest of the panels have. I suspect possible front end damage in the past.

The one thing I've learned.... its worth what highest bidder is willing to pay, whether its 5k or 20K, not necessary what we think its worth. I've been on both sides of this, buying and selling!

Re: I blame this on the pickers.
This truck has been listed several times and also posted here one other time that I know of. If the truck even exists in this mans hand, which I think he does his website looks pretty legit, he will eventually sell it for close to what he wants but it still doesn't mean that is what the truck is worth. I have bought plenty of parts and other things and had people look at me with that look and say "you paid how much for that !!! "

Re: I blame this on the pickers.
I get the feeling whoever owns it truly believes it's worth a bunch of money, like $25K, and relists it every time it doesn't sell for that.
If it keeps selling for less, or not selling, the market is telling you something...

I just ran across the above eBay listing, while checking out those like my 1969.

Re: I blame this on the pickers.
no sense it getting upset on what people are willing to pay. it's their choice to keep going with the bids and if they're happy with it, so be it. I know no ones twisting their arms, so may the best man win....

Re: I blame this on the pickers.
I'm gonna go with this. I love this place but IMO there are far too many dogpiling threads about prices. If a seller is being intentionally dishonest thats one thing, but things are worth what someone is willing to pay.

Re: I blame this on the pickers.
eBay is an auction. I know I have paid too much for things before. I once needed a numbers matching carb for a project and paid way too much in a bidding war. Within a month 3 were listed and sold at half what I paid. I prefer to look local unless its too rare an item or its easy to to ship. Getting a truck from far away adds a lot to the net cost. Point is no is forced to pay what someone asks. Walking away is free.
