Vintage Air Compressor install, I am lost...

I have already put on the evaporator and condenser on the front right with the lines coming out by the battery and the firewall plate etc. and want to go ahead and mount the compressor. I have a little bag of hardware from Vintage Air but no bracket? I installed power steering pump on the front lower left of engine. I've never done air before and have a non-ac truck.
Few questions:

1. Do or should I move alternator to the left side now and how is that accomplished?

2. How do I mount this huge and heavy compressor? Do I need to order a mount separately?

The compressor doesn't care where it's mounted.

You current accessory mountings are not original to the truck so to use those you'll need a compressor mount for the drivers side. The down side to drivers side mounting is there is a lot of ugly hose around the engine compartment.

I have not installed an ac unit yet so I am not an expert for that system, but first what engine is it?

Looks like the stock 350 to me from the pictures. All the others I have seen, the alternator is mounted on the driver side and ac compressor mounted on the passenger side. Could you post a picture of what hardware you do have ? Be easier to tell what you may be missing

It's a small block 400. This is the bag of hardware with some type of T-Handle?
Maybe I'm missing something?

You should have absolutely gotten brackets if you purchased one of their "complete" kits.

I had to convert to a DS alternator mount. I bought one used from the forum. I would not go through the mess of putting the A/C on the DS, all of V/A stuff is set up for the PS unless you custom order it.

It's form 2006, so some things have changed, like how it comes out of the firewall and no more cables, it's all electronic now.

You also need to know if your truck has a long water pump or short (based on your pic it *appears* to be all short which is correct for these trucks, 73+ was "long")

I don't know how different a 400 is but there should be a couple bracket pieces and some spacers, it utilizes both head and exhaust bolts. What do your directions (I know blasphemy) say?

I decided to look under the house one more time and DUH there it is. Thanks for the advice guys because I will have to relocate alternator to drivers side. I think I'm back on track. Will start by painting this bracket.

I think the brackets currently on your truck are "long water pump" brackets.

To swap over to a passenger side compressor you'll need a "short water pump" plus all different brackets and pulleys.

That's what I was thinking, but I couldn't remember if that alternator bracket was 73+ only, but the power steering pump looks correct for a 68-72 SWP (looks just like mine?)?

ahhh I hope you guys are wrong. Yes it is a long water pump. Everything lines up for now. Wow, so I'll have to get a "short water pump" plus all different brackets and pulleys, what a drag. Well where do I start? I would prefer new they can't be that expensive. Should I ask parts store for a certain year truck?

And by the way, what do you do with your pax side interior air vent with the air conditoning unit snug up against it. Take out the handle or just keep it closed?

here is a picture of mine. Same bracket, long water pump alternator on passenger side. You should be good to go. You may need to get a straight thermostat housing and new upper radiator hose. There should also be a block off plate included in the kit to remove the passenger side vent.

CPP has an eBay store and they sell the brackets to swap the alternator to the driver side for 89 dollars. Then your compressor goes on passenger side and keeps all the hoses looking good.

Looks good, I like the big air cleaner, I think I'm going to switch alternator to other side because I have so much room on pax side for all the hoses.

If you switch to the driver side alternator you will need to change pulleys and water pump as well as get the Correct vintage Air bracket. When I ordered my VA kit they asked for the location of the accessories and supplied the brackets for that particular setup. Personally I do not like the way mine looks. Also this mounting location limits your valve cover height to stock.

Not to second guess anybody but I just talked to Vintage Air (Javier) and he told me all I need is this bracket and I can keep long water pump and same pulleys, no problem. This bracket does look a little weird though.

First step I would think is to get a clear idea of what engine it is and whats been done to it. I put that set up on mine and everything pretty much was good to go

Looks pretty clean, wow I don't know that much about A/C what are the spools of wire for? Looks like a complex setup. And that's pretty much what I have planned for my small block 400.

I was able to keep my passenger side air vent functional, control rod and all. The VA unit does not snug all the way up to the kick panel. They do provide a molded plastic block-off plate to permanently close the vent, but I suspect that this is for use in factory AC trucks that have a vacuum controlled passenger vent door and no manual control rod like the non-AC trucks.

Mine clears too (non-AC cab). The right side kick panel vent is still functional.
