1972 Blazer 4x4 to 2WD Conversion
I am in the process of converting a 1972 Blazer 4x4 to a 2wd. My question I have is related to the rear suspension regarding the shock cross member. Does anyone sell this cross member along with the trailing arm cross member. As far as I know, the c10 pickup shock cross member made by CPP will not work on a 1972 blazer frame, also I do not think the trailing arm cross member from a c10 will fit the blazer frame either....Any direction or advice would be great. Thanks.

Re: 1972 Blazer 4x4 to 2WD Conversion
Wasted Income did a 2wd conversion using Porterbuilt stuff. Project Family Truckster is his build thread. If you don't have the money to go that route try a axle flip kit by Belltech, it's a six inch drop. I was use going that on my 74 k5 but decided to stay 4wd.

Re: 1972 Blazer 4x4 to 2WD Conversion
Any updates? I bought a 70 k5 4x4 and I'm about to start a 2wd conversion. I bought a 2wd front frame section and transmission cross member. I know I will need to drill new holes for the front cross member and plan on doing a flip kit for the rear end. Did you run into any snags?

Re: 1972 Blazer 4x4 to 2WD Conversion
Update: Installing the front cross member from a 1973 chevy pickup and found trailing arms / rear diff to add to this project. Addition of a 496 Big Block and a 700R4. I am done rebuilding the transmission, block is at the machine shop.
I know every one seems to be alarmed with a 700R4 behind a big block, I build transmissions for a living so I guess its not a big deal to me plus I do not beat on my trucks to break them....drive them to enjoy not to destroy !!!! Bought the Porterbuilt trailing arm tubular cross member. not in pic.... Going to Fab in rear spring frame supports, pics will be coming soon........ |

Re: 1972 Blazer 4x4 to 2WD Conversion
The latest look of the 72 blazer 4x4 to 2WD conversion. The tires in the rear align with the tub. Test fitting everything, next will be attaching the fenders. Than take it all apart once more. Having fun !!!!

Re: 1972 Blazer 4x4 to 2WD Conversion
I know it’s an old thread but maybe someone can answer this...if you do a blazer with the trailing arm suspension doesn’t the crossmember sit really really close to the rear tail of the trans? Looking to convert a pickup to a blazer roadster and if I shorten my frame another 8 inches there won’t be a huge amount of room in that space. I don’t have my LS engine up against the firewall, either. Looks like I might only be ok because I have the CPP crossmember and the driveshaft hoop is taller than the stock crossmember. Maybe it’s because the old th350 trans is shorter than my 4L80E?

Re: 1972 Blazer 4x4 to 2WD Conversion
I did a trailing arm conversion a few years back (maybe 10). If I was doing it now, I would definitely use the Deadend Garage pieces
