6L80 to 205 transfer case shifter mount
I am building a 72 Blazer Ls3 with a 6L80 to a 205TC and the adapter kit I purchased from Advanced Adapters does not have a place to bolt the stock TC shifter has anyone had any experience fabricating one or know where to purchase one I checked with off road design and they can set me up with a twin stick but I would like to retain the stock shifter.

Re: 6L80 to 205 transfer case shifter mount
Can I ask how you're controlling the transmission? I know that's off the topic of your thread, but... I'm not clear on how, for example, the 4L80E needs a dedicated external controller but the 6L80E has electronics inside of it already, for example.
Still, something (in place of the factory engine ECM) would need to communicate with and control the TCM inside of the 6L80... Any light you can shed on this setup would be great. I assume you had to figure it out to do the swap!

Re: 6L80 to 205 transfer case shifter mount
Subd I need to figure out how to mount my shifter with my 6l90. As for the controller I'm kinda confused? He never said he wasn't using the ls3 ecm?

I am using the LS3 ECM. Learning as I go the next one will be much easier.

Re: 6L80 to 205 transfer case shifter mount
If your trans has these same bosses you could fab a bracket using these as attachment points. Will need to work around dipstick tube (not in picture) To get the shifter through the original hole in the hump you'll probably need to bend it. Or, if there is room, you could make a bracket that bolts to the T-case adapter.

I guess my bigger question is "Which factory ECMs can control the 6L80 and what connection is there between the ECM and the internal TCM". Is it just part of the standard wiring harness?

Re: 6L80 to 205 transfer case shifter mount
Thank you B.W.
My ECM is from Jegs part #809-19301360 that came with the 525HP LS3 it has a place to plug in the 6L80 harness that I got from Jim Miller at Zero Gravity Transmissions. Give him a call he can tell you what you will need. 6029208926 |

Thanks! That makes sense.

Re: 6L80 to 205 transfer case shifter mount
Frankenstein did you ever get the T-case shifter mount fabricated? I'm working on one for my 6L90 now, using a piece of stock that I can secure on the adaptere collar between the trans and t-case. If there's a better way to do it...I'm all ears.

Re: 6L80 to 205 transfer case shifter mount
Planning to fab a bracket using a couple of the adapter bolts and the rear wire harness boss. Keeping my engine close to firewall so transfer case will be moved back 6"8". Will see how that works out. For 6l80-6l90 control I was told the TCM needs to be matched to the ECM. My engine, trans and computer all came from the same car so I should not have any problems. TCM must be programmed if not original to ECM. There was someone working on a stand alone controller. Not sure if available yet. Was also told the shifting in these transmissions is torque based so they can be tougher to set up shift points without burning them up.

Re: 6L80 to 205 transfer case shifter mount
You might check with Novak Adapters for the shifter mount. I know they make a TC shifter and mount for Jeeps with an LS swaps that looks stock more or less.

Re: 6L80 to 205 transfer case shifter mount
Looking at Rowdy's example
If you drill out the top holes in the bracket use spacers and longer bolts on the Adapter to secure the top of the bracket might work well enough |
