Autometer speedo & tach, adapter required?
Hi everyone, I'm having a bit of trouble finding solid information on using an Autometer speedometer and tachometer with an LS swap (2002 LQ4).
If I want to use this combination gauge: https://www.amazon.com/Auto-Meter-14.../dp/B001GFS2XK Can I simply run the ECU output wires directly to the gauge or will I need the adapter shown below? http://www.autometer.com/ls-plug-pla...h-adapter.html Thanks, Matt |

I have not used that particular gauge in the LS installs we have done at the shop. I have used auto meters on the LS swaps before. Simply used the instructions provided by PSI for adding a resistor for the tachometer to read correctly, setting the speed and tachometer according to the instructions included in the harness manufacture, and good to go.
worse case, try it that way as see first, and then spend the money for the adapter. happy motoring AC

yeah, SchreinerM, i would try what a.c.ward has suggested. ive done several swaps and i dont remember needing an adapter for the speedo or tachometer. the PCM will send a tach and speed signal. The speed signal will be calibrated by the electronic speed gauge unless you are using a non electronic transmission. good luck.

I'm using Auto Meter Sort Comp which internally should be similar. Signal from the ECU to the tach. Same for the speedo. If your style gauge is like the Sport Comp you have select the 4 cylinder mode to get it to read correctly. On the back of the gauge there is a plug. You open that up and you can see inside the gauge and there are three (?) little dip switches. The gauge instruction sheet will illustrate the positions of the dip switches for 4 cylinder mode.
You will like speedo calibration. Just follow the instructions and it works great. |

I wound up using a Dakota Digital converter box which worked great for me (PM me if you like I can dig up the part number).
But the pull-down resistor, in combination with setting the ECU to 8 cyl tach mode, should work "for free", though I've not done it.
