Good idea?
Not really a what it's worth thread, as much as it's a "Steer the young kid away if it's a bad idea thread". Found this 1990ish Suburban on a backroad. Debated picking it up for a winter beater since we'll probably get tons of ice and snow this year, last year was pretty mild. Every panel I looked at has rust or deep scratches/dents so it's definitely not a builder but sign says it runs and 4x4 works, asking 1k obo. Grey cloth interior in decent to ratty condition and no under hood pics, but assuming 5.7 tbi. So..think it's worth pursuing as a winter backup daily? First things to happen would be door seals and a tailgate glass lol

Re: Good idea?
Debated offering half...I don't wanna insult the guy but damn it needs some help. I don't even know how bad the frame or floors are. No clue on miles either or "modifications" that were previously done. Gonna go back this weekend and look it over better.

Yea, that one is pretty hurt. Just for your safety, you'd want to redo the brakes, oil exchanges, driveline u-joints, tires, etc.
With the amount of surface rust, any work on this truck's drivetrain is going to be a lot! Need some underside pics but I'm guessing it's not pretty. And depending on how long the back glass has been out, I bet the rear cargo area is rusted out.

Re: Good idea?
Depends on what the drivetrain parts are. A thousand bucks is pretty steep, but it does say OBO. Also, it's important what it drives like. And then, what your needs are. If it saves you from driving a much nicer rig through the salty winter, that's worth a few hundred bucks itself. Looks to me like there are number of good parts on it. And it used to be a truck that somebody took pride in - it's got a repaint.
