Do I Need To Relocate Rear Shocks W/ 3" Drop Coils?
I'm not going to drill any holes in the frame, so I guess this will determine whether or not I try out a set of 3" drop coils in the rear.

Move the mounts or find a shorter shock that will not bottom or top out

Re: Do I Need To Relocate Rear Shocks W/ 3" Drop Coils?
I appreciate your response. So if I just install some high quality shorter shocks, I won't need to relocate with 3" drop coils? If that's the case, that's great news. Do you have a recommendation for the shocks?

I'm no expert but I was told four or more inch changes things up, I did go with four inch spring drop and got the shocks , track bar ( adjustable one )and relocation shock mounts. But like said you may need to go with three inch short short shocks.

They sell relocation kits that use the same holes as the stock ones.

HDFF Thanks for sharing! When you got your truck, already lowered by 4", was it still riding on shocks that were too long?

I ordered 4" drop springs and shocks from ECE. No other changes. Just drove 900 miles. Rides great.

Re: Do I Need To Relocate Rear Shocks W/ 3" Drop Coils?
Thanks fellas! So with those final very helpful testimonies, I'll just order and install the springs. If I can discern a noticeable reduction in ride quality, I'll just pick up some shorter shocks.

Your stock shocks will bottom out.

That throws a wrench. Honestly, if I had a part number for some high performance short shocks (Bilsteins or something similar?), and not just some cheap lowrider shocks, I'd buy it all right now.

Re: Do I Need To Relocate Rear Shocks W/ 3" Drop Coils?
I been looking for my papers and finally found who I got my kit from, turns out it was easier too look under my truck and read the brackets lol. Early Classic , the guy there was very helpful, I told him what I have, short bed ,L6 ,with new LMC springs all around and all new parts up front and back, told him I wanted to level my truck by lowering the rear . He set me up with a four inch lowering kit for the rear-end that also come with K Y shocks, he's is the one to inform me four or more inches need the relocation kit. My truck now sites 32 inches all around . Three and less just springs and shocks is what I'm sure he said. Just look em up, good people.

Re: Do I Need To Relocate Rear Shocks W/ 3" Drop Coils?
I think one of the reasons for relocating the shocks that hasn't been mentioned is the angle of the shock as you lower the truck. I'm somewhere between 3-4" lowered with springs and my shocks were already leaning over at about a 35 degree angle. The shock relocation brackets allow you to run a stock shock and correct the angle of the shock so it's more vertical. I thought mine rode fine without the brackets, but I did actually notice a fair improvement after adding them. You do have to remove the stock top bracket though which requires cutting two rivets on each bracket.

Should not be any drilling or welding. An air hammer with chisel makes quick work of rivets
